It's obviously early days but I did like the determination from our boys to go and win the game after Barry scored the pen, the heads didn't drop and we got our just rewards. IMO it was something that had been missing in previous years in the early season fixtures. If/when we stuff the chavs next week it'll boost the lads no end and there is no reason why we can't go on a good early season run of wins (for a change)

There is no doubt at all that Gerrard is extremely important to our chances this year but we do have plenty of options in CM in case of injury.

It may be true that if we lose Stevie for a month or 2 we might struggle but i would hope the cover we have would do a pretty decent job. I would also hope that by the end of the season and in particular next season our reliance on Stevie is diminished (thinking Momo, Jossi and LUCAS here).

Having said all that, every team will always miss their best player, especially when he is in the top 3 in the world.

PS he showed he was maturing as a captain last year IMO. Good to hear him speak the same language as Rafa as it is vital all messages from the upper levels are the same. Well in Stevie.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

Also, with Alex i think Chelsea have stronger depth at the back, and if they get Alves (again, perish the thought) they will be solid all over the park.

Gerrard means more to us than any player from our rivals. I'd HATE losing him for any period of time.
I'm intrigued by the Tevez - Rooney thing. Man United looked uncharacteristically devoid of ideas yesterday. They looked short of a forward who probed the defence and set up attacks and I think that Tevez + Rooney would have given them that as Rooney was learning to play the deeper role in the United game plan to perfection last season.

I think it will take Tevez a little while to settle in to be as effective. Also they need another forward to allow them to play with the freedom of last year. I can only hope that these little glitches are enough to give them the sort of slow start to the season that has seen us have to write off the title before Christmas in recent years.

For some reason I agree with you.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Hasn't Gerrard matured so much in the way he speaks? Now he always seems to say the right things

Overall I think he has matured but that bitch slap on Lucius against Feyenoord was irresponsible and pathetic to be honest...

Well, he doesn't touch his ears as much now as he did before.

I thought it was refreshing to see tbh. There have been too many times where members of the team have not stuck up for each other.

Does anyone think Gerrard or Carra will be Liverpool boss in 10/20 years time?

Rafa did say he could see Gerrard being manager soon. Not sure whether he would be good tactically, but never mind that, let's just enjoy him playing football.

No, I meant he should have chinned the guy properly like Souey did with that player from Dinamo Bucharest at Anfield in 1984!

Now that would have been something .

Problem is he would have been sent off, banned for Villa and we would have had 1 point instead of 3.
