I don't know why a Liverpool fan should watch that final again ... It's like watching your ex-girlfriend doing it with someone else ... No wait, that would probably turn me on ... It's like ... My last memories of this damn final are being pissed and pissed off and arguing with Milan fans in the pub who didn't aplaude their team while receiving the cup. I completely lost it

Yeah I was 12 I think. It was when I lived/breathed/slept football (then you grow up sadly!), I had the green and white away kit, watched all the matches I possibly could, had a lot of friends & family who were Utd fans, I'd been giving it all the 'We'll stuff you' lemon. Then of all people C*ntona scores at the death, when James lost the ball from the corner, and the ball managed to pass what seems like 100 players from 2 millions yards out (yeah, slight exageration). Don't know, that's the one cup final/match/goal that I just can't watch

Don't remember losing the League to Arsenal or the Cup to Wimbledon (way too young!), but I remember losing the 99 FA Cup match, I was listening to it on the radio. You could've knocked me down with a feather! Gutted.

I think my childhood memories of disappointing defeats has hardened me and prevents me from taking defeats badly these days.
Disappointing finals/games:

1. 1986/7 League cup final: LFC1-2Arse. Bloody Charlie Nicholas scores one and deflects another off Ronnie Whelan to wrong foot Brucie. When I replay it in my mind I still can't believe Brucie didn't save it. That was the first GAME we'd lossed when Rushie had scored.

2. 1987/8 FA cup final: LFC, the best team in the world at the time, won the league by April, had about 6 weeks off before the final. They were playing "the crazy gang", the ****test team in the league. LFC played total football whilst Wimbledon played total long ball. Beardo had a goal ruled out ludicrously because the ref had already blown for a foul on him. That **** Dennis Wise crossed for Lawrie Sanchez( :whatever: ) to somehow score past Brucie. Then Aldo became the first man to miss a pen in a cup final (I think) even though aldo was totally reliable from the spot. I was crying so hard after that game that I was shaking uncontrolably

3. 1988/9 Last game of the seaon: Obviously this season was notable for far more upsetting events than a result of a football match but this was a big one. LFC had already stuffed the bitters in the cup final with 2 goals from Rushie In the last week of the season we were level with the Arse with a game in hand, level on points and goal difference. We stuffed West Ham 5-1 at home in our second last game and had to play the Arse at Anfield 3 points ahead with plus four goals goal difference. These were the days where any LFC defeat was unthinkable, let alone at Anfield. Anyway, everyone knows what happened, Michael Thomas scoring in the nintieth minute. Alan Smith had also "scored" after an indirect free kick went close to his head and dropped in. He didn't touch it, he's a cheating ****
To this day I still have NO IDEA how that ****ty Arsenal boring bunch of ***** won the league on GOALS SCORED. They were the original "1-0 to the Arsenal" team. They'd score early and spend the rest of the game passing it back to the keeper. Rocastle was a great player though. Whereas we had Barnes, Beardo, Aldo, Houghton, McMahon and Rush

Agree with practically every word in your post, except the 87 League Cup Final which I have no recollection of. Certainly the 88 Cup Final was devestating. I definitely remember crying uncontrolably after the Wimbledon match. I was watching it with a Scum fan supporting Wimbledon and he ripped me mercilessly. Disgraceful that the foul was called and Beardsley wasn't given the advantage. I had a bad feeling about that. Even when Aldo stepped up for the pen I knew he'd miss and it wasn't going to be our day. But that 88 team is still the best club side in the history of English football

As for 1989, I think the combination of Hillsborough, the backlog of fixtures it created and just the general devestation it caused, together with the fact we didnt know how to approach a ame we could afford to lose just caught up with us in that game. Arsenal were the fortunate beneficiaries of circumstance. They had a massive lead that season of something like 13 points which we clawed back. I have no doubts we were the superior team, it's probably one of the few occasions where the best team didn't win the league, fate/circumstances conspired against us.

What annoys me about those ***** is that they take credit for us being plunged into a transitional period, believing that win in 89 destroyed the Liverpool dynasty :whatever:

Having said that, defeats today are still devestating for me, but I dont think they'll rival 88 or 89 .

Same here, I watched the first half at the my tennis club bar and had to go home and listened to it on the radio. I have to say I cried when that went in. I had those little big headed football figures and had a Scholes one and I broke it I was so pissed off.

It was worse when we lost when I was in Primary school as that was between 95-98 all my mates where United fans and I was the only Liverpool fan.

Yup, I was the only Liverpool fan with 2 Gooner mates and loads of Utd fans. I had to defend all our **** like Cheyrou, Song, Diao, Harkness, Matteo, Camara... whilst they were signing the likes of Berkamp, Henry, Overmars, Petit etc

Still, we also had a West Ham & Millwall fan who were good to take the piss out of

Never really saw the end of the final, went outside the pub when they scored their second, we scored when I was outside, I came in saw the goal replayed and then went outside again hoping we'd score again, obviously never worked.

Haven't seen the end of the game any of the celebrations or anything, have no desire to watch it again, and that's that.
