And for what it's worth I think this is no punishment at all giving him a weekend off. The magnitude of that mistake deserves more than his boss coming on tv, acknowledging that one of the "professionals" under his charge made an error and as a result he wont be officiating next week. If you ask me that is not accountability. He'll be back in a couple of weeks making more stupid mistakes.

I think some people on here are underestimating the magnitude of the errors the guy made. I'm not saying we should be hounding him out of the game, I'm just saying there needs to be far more transparency, openness and accountability as far as referees are concerned.

The crowding and hounding of referees is something that needs to be curtailed asap. The Man U one a few years ago was a disgrace, bordered on physical harrassment and abuse, (the nerve of the ref to award a penalty agianst scum at OT for the first time in about a decade) and yet they got away with it completely unpunished. While there is no deterrent, teams like the scum and chavs will keep on doing it and will be influencing refs (subconsciously at least) as a result.

I want to hear those words coming direct from Styles' mouth; explain what infringement he thought he saw, acknowledge he was mistaken and apologise for making such a costly error. Then I will be happy to draw a line in the sand.

I am not accepting that this **** can make any number of inane decisions on match day, and he can avoid all the scrutiny by having his boss come on tv to apologise on his behalf.

Styles dropped from premier league!

Referees' chief Keith Hackett has confirmed Rob Styles will not take charge of a match in the Premier League next weekend after his performance in the game between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield yesterday.

Styles controversially awarded Chelsea a penalty which enabled Jose Mourinho's side to equalise after Fernando Torres' opener. He then caused confusion by issuing a yellow card at Michael Essien - who had already been booked - only to insist later that it was John Terry being booked.

Why is everyone so shocked at Rob Styles performance sunday, he was just his usual self. As I support a lower league team, I had the dis-pleasure of Rob Styles long before he darkened the premiership, and even then he stood out as a joke. How he got to ref in the premiership just shows how few refs there must be at the moment. Now I urge you to watch out for a ref called Steve Tanner, now this man makes Styles look like a genious
