I actually think Mascherano has a lot more natural footballing ability than Keane. He is composed, got the positional sense of a 30 year old, such a smooth tackler and rarely wastes possession.

Keane's desire and his will to win made him the player he was, no specific footballing attributes.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Ahh,come on,he won many a match on his own and was a natural leader,Keano was the best in the buisness when he was fit.

KEane was a world class holding midfield player and possibly the reatest leader and organiser on the pitch I have ever seen, like him or loath him, you can't argue with the quality he had. Mascherano has a bit of work to do, to be at the same level KEane was.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

        * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

I'm not saying Mascherano is a better or more influencial PLAYER yet, but I think his temperment, his tackling and his passing are superior to Keane's throughout his whole career, nevermind when he was 22.

No I don't. I'm nearly sure Keane admitted himself that he played with and against much more naturally talented players, but a lot of them didn't have any balls and he just refused to lose or give up.

Don't make me look for that Roy Keane book

Besides, do you not think Mascherano is a better tackler and a better passer?

Keane could tackle and pass aswell, his weakness was his temper which is what most will remember him for.His footballing skills were superb, his record is there to see.Your poosibly just a little biased because he played for the scum.

It's generally accepted that Keane is one of the best, if not the best midfielder to play in the premiership.

Look up your book if you want but i feel it's wrong to equate hard work with lack of natural talent.

It's way to early to compare.

I know he could, he did everything well, and I'm not biased at all. My point is that Mascherano just looks a more natural and gifted footballer. When Keane was a younger he nearly didn't make it as a footballer because was too short. Mascherano is probably no bigger, but because of his immense talent he has been destined for stardom from a young age. Keane initially compensated for his lack of height with his aggression and determination, Mascherano while still competitive just oozes class and height isn't a problem at all.

I think you're missing my point. I never once said Keane lacked talent. I said there is and was better 'footballers' not necessarily better players, Mascherano I think is and will be one of these
