I don't think he lacks pace. He is not the fastest around but he is pretty quick.

For me what he lacks is skill.

He has decent acceleration but he has no real pace. Have you ever seen him outrun a player over a distance?.

I would dispute the skill thing and frankly I'm bored arguing the definition. He has great awareness and brings people into the game with great short balls and knock downs - that is a skill. he brings the ball into play much quicker than Crouch - again a skill. His control is decent, even if he has the odd abomination, a lot of the time he deliberately knocks it away from his body to get a strike in and people imagine it is a **** up, or at least he did last season - this year he has shown a much better understanding of how PL defenders close down.

Crouch is horrible this season. I really like him as a player, but I think he'll never be able to score with his head more often than a few times (2,3) per season. Which is a darn shame, considering he is the biggest dude in football.

That's not what skill is referred to IN FOOTBALL. Sorry. Skill in footy refers mainly to technique and trickery.

Crouch was pretty shocking in pre-season, I wasn't at all suprised he started the first few games on the bench. A Crouch - Torres combination is also the kind of thing that might take a bit longer to get right in training, which could be why we haven't seen them paired together yet this season.

Well, usually in pre season, players want to impress the manager and want to give 110%. Even if they stood 0% of winning the ball, they still went after it. Not Crouchie though. AND what is the most important, when there was a chance for a goal (when he needed to pass to a free player), he tried to dribble or outrun () the defender and was usually left for dead with an egg on his face.

Actually I think Cobain has made the two most pertinent points on this thread, certainly the ones I agree with most, namely that:-
i)Kuyt is not scoring because he is not playing in goal-scoring position most probably because he is following Rafa's instructions to play deep/wide etc.
ii)Crouch's form has been indifferent this season and his heading is woeful for a man of his height and the obvious advantage he has in getting his head on the end of crosses.

I dont see that those points are contentious or that you could find them so disagreeable as to call him an idiot.
