He seems to have come in for a little bit of stick already so far this season. I feel the need to defend him. People have said his first touch is poor, AnfieldAnfield has laughably even likened him to Cisse. But from everything I have seen the lad is going to be an absolutely huge star:
He has pace to burn and, perhaps that's where the Cisse comparison comes from? If so the crucial difference is that he knows when to utilise it and doesnt just lump it ahead of himself to run onto. He'll slow it down and then put on the turbos to kill the fullback for pace. Cisse wasnt clever enough to do this.
He has immense skill. He is strong on either foot and has tremendously fast feet. Able to shift it out of the way of defenders with ease. In this respect he reminds me of Anelka. Our most skillful player in terms of beating a man along with Benayoun and Torres.
He has the confidence and arrogance to try something special. He hasnt been overawed by coming here, he just feels he belongs at the top level. He likes to play attacking attractive football and to score spectacular goals. He has great belief in his abilities. He will score some stunning goals this season.
Has a rocket of a shot. We have already seen a few glimpes of this and will see plenty more as the season goes on. Great technique when he strikes the ball. Doesnt just rely on pace though, likes to curl them in a la Henry when through one on one.
He normally seems to pick the right pass and has the eye for a kiler ball. We saw it last night when he set up Kuyt for his 1st goal. Great bit of play, beautiful delicate little lay off for Kuyt to set up the chance. That's what he's all about. He will score goals but he will set up plenty once he settles as well.
He is very strong on the ball. Well built and not afraid to get stuck in. I think the workrate required of him in the Premiership would have been an eye opener for him at first, but he will gradually adjust to that. Not many players will be strong enough to push him off the ball once he settles though.
He is versatile. Can play on either wing without any trouble, and obviously loves to play up top as well.
That is all
