In fact, I think McClaren probably dreams of something like this:

    Foster

    G.Neville Ferdinand Brown P.Neville

    Beckham Carrick Hargreaves Downing(c)

    Rooney Scholes

Not a chance that he will leave out Fat Frank
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I don't think Pennant is Englands best right winger. SWP is better than him and a fit Beckham is still number one in that position. Bentley is probably as good as Pennant and a bigger goal threat.

You need to have a goal threat on the wings and Pennant isn't that.

I would always take Pennant over Bentley

When Steve McCLaren announces his England squad for the Euro qualifiers against Israel and Russia later today, one man at Melwood will be watching with baited breath.

Jermaine Pennant has made no secret of his desire to play international football, but never before has the naming of a squad been preceded by such a glowing endorsement from Rafa Benitez.

The Spaniard declared last weekend that his winger was now worthy of a call up, and even predicted with certainty that Pennant would wear three lions on his chest within a year.

The man himself missed the article in question, but admits he got a massive buzz when he heard about Rafa's words days later.

"It was great to hear," the 24 year-old told Liverpoolfc.tv. "For your club manager to give you a shout out like that, you know you must be doing something right. It was nice of him - all I hope now is it comes true.

"He's not the kind of boss who'll praise his players just for the sake of it, so when he does say something you know he means it.

"I didn't read his comments myself but someone told me about them and it was a great feeling. It shows I've been putting the effort in and, if you like, it's a reward for that.

"I hope I'm doing enough to get in the England squad. My club manager is pleased with me, and I'm playing for Liverpool – one of the best teams in the country. There's no reason I can't force my way into his plans and I have a picture of Downing and Brown kissing Maccas arse that I will publice if I won't get selected.

"Everyone knows I'm dying to play for England, and though Liverpool comes first, I'd consider it a massive achievement.

"I've just got to keep doing my best for this club and see what happens."

Pennant admits it took him time to adapt after moving from Birmingham a year ago.

An upturn in form in the second half of last season culminated in an assured display in the Champions League final, and the new campaign has seen him pick up where he left off.

Many reasons have been mooted for the change, but one factor which can't be overlooked is confidence.

"I feel like I'm needed here," revealed Pennant. "I feel like I'm an important part of the team, and I think that's reflected in my performance. I'm playing with confidence.

"The fans have always been great, but I really feel appreciated at the moment and I hope I can keep it that way."

Papers are talking bout that ****** bentley getting called up. But I think Pennant deserves a shot.
Pennant deserves an England cap and that's it. More than any other winger.

Definately deserves his chance but knowing how useless McClown is, he might use him as a centre half!!!

I will rather he gets the call up, get a nigglily injury on Saturday that needs 6 days rest so he stays behind.

F**k England!!! And I am English, sorry Scouse
