    english players at LFC

obviously we were brilliant and all that against derby but am i the only who noticed there was only 1 english player in the starting line up? anyone else find this worrying? i seem to remember arsenal getting quite a lot of stick for it back in the days and they had no englishmen on the bench let alone the first eleven.

the academy not bringing through a carra or stevie anymore? we obviously all know the transfer market is really inflated for english players but seriously, i see our kids have won the fa youth cup twice in a row and a lot of them are now ineligible to play in that competition so will they get a chance in the first team? with a lot of foreigners bought as squad players it will be really tough for the local lads to even get a chance in the carling cup

Couldnt care less im Welsh. LFC has never been about English players, even our great teams of days gone by were filled with Scots and Irish and Welsh.

that's the problem with being part of the greatest and most marketable league in the world. Good players follow the money i.e. Premiership.

i could/shoulda probably have titled this british players but i was focusing mainly on the academy which has been successful in recent years winning trophies and what not but anyway, you are spot on. as far as i know lfc has given contracts to a lot of british and irish players as trainees.

just not good enough i guess?

all very sad considering how things were 20 years ago

Cream rises. If they are good enough, they'll get in.

Don't care although in an ideal world our team would have a couple more Scousers and a few Celts.

is right mate, but how will these young players get the chance to improve if theres another experienced player lined up as back up?

as another lad said in another thread, lfc can now line up 2 strong teams with a lot of experienced internationals in both sides. so unless theres an unprecedented injury crisis, i can't see quality british youngsters breaking through.

and all these foreign teen players we've signed will further hamper their progress

There are too many foreigners in the Premier League. FACT.

However - there are those who believe that this isn't the case and they help improve the quality of our game. Which of course is bollox.

So you DONT think the foreigners have improved the standard of the premiership?
                      Interesting.
Ok, but can you see why financial constraints have made this necessary and even sensible?

Couldn't care less as long as they give there all and are good enough.

People of the ilk of Eric Djemba Djemba and Salif Diao have done **** all for the premiership mate - and there are shed loads more like them. Bergkamp, Zola, Schmeichel, Henry and players of THEIR ilk will undboubtedly help improve our game but they are way way in the minority.
Instead of blaming the finances for this influx of foreign players, the EPL and FA should have done something about it but they didn't and now we're paying the price with hundreds of millions of pounds going out of our game - never to be seen again.

Is the right answer. Like it or not, football is a global game nowadays. Furthermore, I'd rather have us actually winning trophies than sticking to bringing through local youth players who just don't cut the mustard.

I couldn't tell you, but way back when there weren't that many playstations, televisions and whatnot about, maybe this is a factor to consider? I don't know.

We will always be Liverpool Football Club and if a local lad is good enough he will get his chances. At the moment I don't see any new Gerrards, Carraghers and whatever on the horizon. Furthermore, the competition is immense nowadays, you cannot force us to stick to locals if they're just not good enough, I don't see what the problem is. If you're good enough, you will get your chance, regardless of where you're from.

i think im right in saying that liverpudlians go by the belief of liverpool first, england second.

so if the youngsters are not coming from liverpool,i doubt they give a damn really about where they are coming from.

if the scouse kids are good enough they will make it.

tbh though, its not liverpools job to be a nursing club for england.
You two scousers are always yapping,I'm gonna show you some serious rapping.
