In fact I know so because my dad was a Protestant (before he married my mum and became a Catholic) but he was also a staunch Evertonian.

Who cares really anyway? It's **** all to do with religion now if it ever was.

I'd just like to say that "whatever your religion you are!", at the end of the day it's you and you alone who decides what team your going to support(if indeed any!) so, let's get back to football eh. btw, i've supported LFC since i can remember, and only had a soft spot for Celtic when we signed king Kenny back in the 70s, i do know one thing though, the Scots have always done well for us whoever we signed,(king Kenny, Hanson, Souness, Macallistor(spelt wrong i know) etc, ahh, those were the days eh

Both clubs have mixed religion fan bases. I guess if you did a poll of the members of this website as a sample of our international fan base you'd get as many Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and one Buddhist (Fredo) as Catholics and Protestants.

However, nobody can deny that Liverpool's origins were as orange as Rangers. Likewise nobody can repudiate the obvious affinity with Celtic fans over the last 30 years.

But my answer to the original question (which everybody seems to have forgotten) is 'no'...

Well it's certainly a novel argument.

i dont really want to get involved in this but i always though it was common knowledge that with the influence of irish immigrants after world war 2 that everton were the traditional catholic team and we were the proddy team. it could be old wives tales but along with that understaning i was always led to believe villa arsenal the manc along with celtic were the catholic teams of england. im a catholic myself . me da and me grandad both are bluenoses along with the rest of me uncles and cousins who come over from ireland. i also thought the trend of switching over started in the late 50s early 60s.

The Spion Kop was named after a battle took place on a mountain of the same name in Africa:

"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."
