Should Liverpool have an affinity to Rangers or Celtic?

Well how reliable is this person who told you? He may have said that but you don't know whether or not you didn't get it because there was someone more qualified than you? Or perhaps you were on a par with someone else but they were a practicing Catholic? I dunno. Catholic education has always been the same. They want people who fully understand and suppport their aims and if you aren't Catholic then you don't. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but the success of Catholic schools on the whole would be the main reason they don't want change because so far whatever they are doing is working.RAFA! RAFAEL! True. I hate all this sectarian crap. Religion is supposed to be about being good, so it's a load of hypocritical crap. I hate the Z Cars Orange drum song just because of the evil bogotry it embodies. My wife is Catholic. Who cares, that's the least of our problems.Originally posted by Red_hot View PostI've always associated Liverpool with Celtic to be honest but I remember my dad saying Liverpool was for Protestants and Everton was for Catholics. Most of my family are Evertonians but I don't think it has anything to do with the fact we are all Catholics. In fact I know so because my dad was a Protestant (before he married my mum and became a Catholic) but he was also a staunch Evertonian.
Who cares really anyway?
It's **** all to do with religion now if it ever was.
I was surprised when I found out that LFC was a protestant club, because I'd always thought as us of being very Irish linked and because of our links with Celtic. Then I saw a **** at work who was a Scum fan who had a Celtic/Manure wallpaper on his PC. Do they copy everything we do?
The link with Celtic seems to date back to Kenny?
Two girls I worked with were Rangers fans and their hatred of Celtic reminded me of the Bitters hatred of us.. I said that Celtic had done well for Scotland in Europe and got them an extra place in the cups and they just spat venom. Celtic waving Spanish holiday souvenirs e.g. donkeys and sombreros at them during the derby when they'd got to the final, was just like our sense of humour too. They just seem more like us and the repressed, crude hate-filled 'Gers more like Everton.

It isn't. Everton aren't a catholic club. Show me in either club's official history where it says anything different. Both clubs have substantial Irish-scouse fanbase (including my familly). The only people who spread this kind of thing do so because they have sectarian agendas.LFC was a protestant club

i think we've probably exhausted this one now.
I don't want this thread to be about why I didn't get the job in question. Maybe I wasn't the best candidate, maybe my religion did effect my chance.
Anyway whats done is done and its time to get back to the subject in question, and if I could remember what that is, i would try to make a valid and succinct point.
Oh and by the way Red hot, you've got no chance of being the next assistant in the Tardis.
I have it on good authority the Doctor adopts a strict no Catholics allowed policy.

And thank **** for that.Like I said in my earlier reply, many of the club's early directors were connected to the Orange Order including founder John Houlding and John McKenna. Liverpool F.C. also had strong connections to the Working Men's Conservative Association (WMCA), the political expression of the Liverpool Protestant Association.Originally posted by Tom View PostIt isn't. Neither everton nor liverpool have a sectarian foundation. How many times does it have to be said. People who make such claims must show this to be the case by referring to where it says so in the foundation charters for each club. You wont get very far.Sam Johnstone of the Football Research Unit at Liverpool University says those speculating on the origins of the Liverpool-Everton, Protestant-Catholic thing are talking nonsense. "Both clubs were founded by the same people (essentially the wealthy, protestant middle classes of 19th-century Liverpool) from the same church (St Domingo's, a protestant church)," he says.Last edited by Tom; 16-09-07, 10:33 PM.

Obviously someone else with a sectarian agenda, celebrity fan Pete Hooton, describing one of our old songs on the official propaganda website:Originally posted by Tom View PostNeither everton nor liverpool have a sectarian foundation. 'If You're Feeling Tired And Lonesome'. This is another traditional song. As Liverpool had the tradition of being the protestant club, years and years ago, a lot of these tunes are linked to marching songs, the type you'd hear on July 12th.
Like I've already said, 'Poor Scouser Tommy' is also sung to the tune of a protestant marching song 'The Sash'. Another bizarre, unconnected coincidence...

Sing the words:
Oh... I am a Liverpudlian, I come from the Spion Kop
I like to sing, I like to shout, I go there quite a lot (every week)
We support the team that play in Red, a team that we all know
A team that we call Liverpool and to glory we will go
We've won the League, we've won the Cup, we've been to Europe too
We played the Toffees for a laugh and we left them feeling blue - Five Nil!
Then listen to 'The Sash'...
It is old but it is beautiful, and its colours they are fine
It was worn at Derry, Aughrim, Enniskillen and the Boyne.
My father wore it as a youth in bygone days of yore,
And on the Twelfth I love to wear the sash my father wore.
