Should Liverpool have an affinity to Rangers or Celtic?
*******....... you got to hate when that happens !!!
duly edited,,,,,,, smart c-unt
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.
"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."
Sorry I find this whole attempt at devising revisionist history to drive a sectarian wedge between the clubs really offensive. We don't need religion in our football.
Or our schools
Great posts by Tom and Sir Bob

You're right mate, and I said as much in my initial post.
Being Irish it's always been Celtic for me just seems right that the two clubs have incredible tradition and history, YNWA, the Fields of Anny Road/Athenry.
The amount of Irish in Liverpool and and the connection between them.
Also the Celtic fans presented a banner to the Kop last year in support of the HJC.
I was fully aware that Liverpool were seen as the Rangers of England at one stage but that tag I think has long since gone.
The feeling I get in Liverpool is that there would be more of an affinity to Celtic but that could be bias on my part.
I disagree. People should have the right to go to a religious school if they want to.
This is an interesting statement from someone who had to blag their level of religious worship in order to get their child accepted to the school
All I'm saying is, fine, have religious schools, so long as it's privately funded not state funded and that they accept all religions including atheists and employ anyone regardless of religion or lack of it.
I've got no problem with private schools being of a particular relgion but state schools should be secular IMO. anyway, back to the topic
The reason I make the distinction between state schools and private schools is because I see education as part of the public services. If you have seperate religions for schools then where does it end? Hospitals who only treat/employ jews (for example), roads which can only be driven on by muslims (for example), only protestant(for example) dustbins emptied, seperate buses/trains for catholics (for example)?
It's not possible and it's not practical, therefore the most efficient way of doing it is to have secular public services IMO.

No offence mate, but what you Red Hot and others are discussing here is a good topic, but one not really in keeping with the questions posed in this thread. Worthy of another thread in the Library perhaps? Cheers.

Thanks for that RB. I wasn't educated on this question at all so that's why I asked the original questions. There has been a mixed bag of responses.
If you're going to make claims about sectarian foundations of everton or liverpool lets see the history. There isn't any. Saying that certain songs use certain tunes means nothing. I'm still to see any history that catagorically states that the clubs were founded along sectarian lines.
Some facts to mull over while somebody does this:
- Liverpool fans sing orange marching songs (the sash)
- Liverpool fans also sing republican songs (fields of....)
- Everton fans use orange marching songs (Johnny Todd)
-Both clubs founded by the same people who happen to be members of the orange lodge.
-Goodison park includes a protestant church within it (strange for a supposedly catholic club dontcha think?)
There is no foundation to support an argument that liverpool is protestant, everton catholic.
Fair points Tom there may be no actual determination of one or the other being founded as a Protestant of Catholic club but there was a perception that Liverpool was a Protestant club and Everton a Catholic club.
TBH I don't give a **** either way but I do feel for other reasons Liverpool are closer to Celtic than Rangers.

Yeah fair enough, I think there was a thread in there about a year ago on it
