    Hyypia nearing 100 euro-cup matches

Sami Hyypia is nearing a BIG milestone in his career. 34 players make up the Uefa club 100 (100 matches played in euro competitions).
Sami's totals after Porto match is 97 (84 Liverpool and 13 Mypa & Willem II). With Agger out of the lineup for six weeks it seems that Sami is now destined to crack the 100 mark in group stage of UCL.

wonder how long hyypia can still be a viable option for us, could he be a maldini type and go on for years yet. People go on about his speed, but i'm not sure he's got any slower, he was just never that fast

I think this might Hyypia's last season at the club but what a servant he's been.

Regarding Maldini and more specifically Milan, I think they must put something in the water to help their defenders carry on playing top class football through to their late 30's (Maldini, Costacurta, Cafu & Baresi) etc. Quite phenomenal really.

thing is the italien league is miles slower than our league, so older players can go on for longer. but Sami is a good pro (like Maldini etc) and I'm sure he isnt on the piss all the time and looks after himself.
As for whether he wuill stay? i wouldn't mind if he did, he brings a lot of experience

One question - at the end of the season he would've been here 9 years.

I know you usually have to be at a club 10 years to get a testimonial - is that correct? So if he leaves at the end of the season then he'll miss out on one??!!

They still do the business in Europe and for their national sides in the past though Parm. But yeah - Seria A can be quite sedate at times.

for sure, even CL games are of a slower pace so they can still do the biz, but they could never have carried on for as long as they have done in the EPL/

Just saw this on Sportinglife about Everton...

Their 50th match in European competition this may have been, but nobody at Goodison Park needed telling there have been few such occasions over recent years

That tells quite a lot about them and Sami
Another 96.000 reasons to honour Rafa

I just hope someone has a cunning plan

Just reading as well he'll be 34 in 2 weeks time, that really is some acheivement to still be at the top level of football at his age, was interesting to see the other day as well when rafa came out and said this isn't nescesarily Sami's last season with us, i hope he can carry on, for a season or two yet
