I think he is covering the wings until we get decent wingers in. Once we do, I like the sound of 'Torres of Babel' too.
Ronaldo was obviously talented though, he maybe tried a little too much when he first joined at times, but he still frightened the life out of defences, much more so than Babel is now.

'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Haven't read the thread so apologies if any of these points have been made already.

I'm a big fan of Babel,I was delighted when we signed him and still am.

I'd like to see him given a role up front with Torres, even in the cup's to see how he gets on.

He is very raw but he's also very young, added to the fact that he's moved to a stronger league then the Dutch one,it's gonna take some time to settle and adjust.

I figure the best way to help is to keep playing him.

and me his touch is bad, and i dont think you learn that, to compare him to digger when his close control was awesome is laffable, he needs to get some confidence i think then he will use his pace and power to hurt teams.

ronaldo got 6 goals and 4 assists in his first season I'd change 'frightened the life out of defenses' to 'gave them a minor shock'

Nothing surprising about the way he has started so far, flashes of genius mixed amongst many more head scratching moments. Perhaps most worrying is he still seems a little of the pace in terms of commitment and endeavour.

Way too early to judge him yet but the key thing to me is that I would still pick him ahead of anyone available at left wing. Who have we got that would do a better job at the moment? No one really stands out for me. Leto had an average game against Toulouse (who were poor opposition) and possibly deserves a run out tomorrow. Possibly Aurelio will get games at left wing once fully fit, but he´s hardly a winger either.

I really hope we stick with Babel and let him play himself into the Premiership, he needs games to build understanding and confidence. If we drop him and his confidence suffers he may start to doubt himself and go the same way as Gonzalez.

Have some patience with Ryan, dont cast your judgements just yet, the lad will be superb in a few years time, I would still bet he will score a few more sublime goals this season and may ecplise those Ronaldo stats spider-neil just posted.

It may be his style but to me he never looks in full control of the ball or his legs.........He's lighting quick and as got a powerful shot but at the moment thats it, hopefully in a year or 2 he'll become the player we need on the left/right/striker

All I'll say is the Ugly Ronaldo with the long neck was the same in his first season.
I'd give him the games but I think he is more effective on the right.

He shows flashes of talent, but is quite clearly raw. I thought he started quite well on saturday...then faded, which happens to young players. You cant expect him to dominate games so soon. Its unfair and unrealistic.

Leto deserves a game for sure, he has looked a class above the reserves. I keep saying it....but he reminds me of Santi Solari more and more each time i see him. He's not blazing fast, but has very quick feet, and always beats his man. He also puts in a pretty good cross. I have high hope for him.

I also think Aurelio at LB would have a postive effect on Babels play. He overlaps well, and with Babel drifting in on his right foot it would give him and outlet for a nice cross into th box from Aurelio.
I would agree with that re both players mate.

We paid £11m for him and he's an international for Holland, not some raw kid from the Liverpool Zingari League. There's no doubt he has 'something' but apart from the dummy and finish versus Derby he has shown nothing other than an ability to get the ball stuck under his feet, a lousy first touch, an unwilligness to go down the outside and most alarmingly as pablo pointed out an apparent lack of willingness to work his bollox off.

I don't expect him to come in and set the place on fire - but what I do expect are certain basics which at the moment he is simply unwilling/incapable of doing. If you think that's harsh on the lad then so be it, but for 11 big ones I expect an awful lot more than what he's showing at the moment.

It goes without saying that when he begins to show his worth I will come on and praise the lad but until that time he's got an awful lot to improve on.
