    Dirk Kuyt

    I just don't get it.

Now this opinion won't be popular - I suspect - but it's bothering me greatly ever since we signed him.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Kuyt is not Liverpool quality. Never was, never will be.

    Let me explain.

I don't want to bash the guy, he works hard and plays with passion, but so would I if I got to play for LFC.

See I, like lots of others on here, was brought up on Kenny Dalglish's all round genius, Ian Rush's goals, Beardleys magic passing, Fowler's goal poaching brilliance and latterly Michael Owen's 1 in 2 goals to games ratio bailing Ged out of the ****e, time after time.

Torres is the first striker we've had since Owen, who has a legit chance of being in the same class as those, mentioned above, yet yesterday both Kuyt and Voronin – both inferior players we can all agree - were picked ahead of him for tactical reasons.

I was also brought up with the philosophy where you play your best players in your most important games. Birmingham at home is a must win game for us, infact every league game should be viewed as such. But is it?

I'd like to think Rafa knows a hell of a lot more than me, but how on earth does that makes sense?

Now I don’t want to single him out, but because he seems to play every game, he’s one of the most visible members of the first team squad. There are others who IMO clearly aren’t up to scratch, but who don’t start as often. I want to make it clear that I’m not here to attack Kuyt because of yesterday, too many, including our best player, our captain, didn’t perform to their usual standards. I’m simply fed up of seeing ****e forwards - who don’t threaten to opposition - play for us. That statement might make me sound childish and spoilt, but I’m just being honest.

Birmingham yesterday were comfortable playing against Kuyt in particular, Against teams defending deep at Anfield he hasn't the pace to threaten in behind, nor is he dominant in the air to win crosses thrown in. And I‘d rather not comment on his first touch.

So somebody explain it to me.

I don't go to the games every week, can one of the seasies tell me, is there something he does during the game which you can't see watching him on the telly?

As for Rafa he’s made some avoidable mistakes so far this season, will he learn from them? I just hope that he doesn't fall into the trap of his ego, like, dare I say a certain French hack that used to manage us.

I don’t want to be accused of an overreaction. 12 points from 6 games is the best start we’ve had in years in what could be one of the most open leagues in years.

But it could and should’ve been better had Rafa not messed around. I hate stats, but here’s one; in the 4 league games Torres has started we’ve won 3 and drawn one, which but for a diving Frenchy and a shaky ref we would’ve. The other 2 games he hasn’t started we’ve failed to win.

I just hope that Rafa doesn’t use Torres from the start against reading in the league cup, because he will get an awful lot of stick for that.

I think if we’re able to play our best 7-8 players most league games, we’ll be in with a shot, but if keep leaving out our genuine top quality difference makers, we won’t be.

Ready to be sent to the Gallows now.

    I'm afraid I agree.

No league goals yet, despite starting the majority of games. The worst of it is he's barely even looked like scoring in the league.

When Rafa defended his decision to leave out Torres, he talked of their defending deep and Dirk being a 'good worker'.

    That about sums him up.

His touch is woeful and it bounced off him all afternoon. First touch followed by a desperate sliding tackle. I couldn't believe he stayed on the park and, even worse, he ended up playing left wing. How bad does he have to be to be taken off?
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Christ on a bike. Someone agrees.

Rafa seems to really rate him. This worries me greatly.

Haven't read the whole post mate, but having been someone who's defended him in the past I'm seriously beginning to lose my patience with him. He was anonymous yesterday (although granted the service was poor), but if you saw him in the pre-match warm up he was hitting shots clean and true, powerfully and accurately in the net from outside the area which made me think he can finish (I know, completely different in a game situation).

What I'm worried about is this smacks of similarities to your Cisse tracker back in the Koptalk days, when you would tell anyone who'd listen how gash he was, and people like me would defend him and say you weren't giving him a fair chance, yet you were completely right about him and we were completely deluded to think that Cisse could have ever been of Liverpool-standard

          Completely agree there.

Describe Kuyt without using the term 'hard working' - you can't! He must know where the goal is as his record of 70 in 100 for Feyenood proves that (although in a crap league). However he just doesn't look like scoring on a regular basis.

He plays a higher percentage of games than both Crouch and Voronin, and probably a similar amount to Torres. No league goals so far either. Last season he scored a few, but against the likes of Reading, Wigan, West Ham.

Good 3rd choice striker, but we need someone a bit more selfish, that will stay in the box, let the midfield supply them with chances, and stick the ball in the net. Drifting out wide or playing deep isn't what strikers should be doing.

Kuyt, like Cisse had, has had enough time to prove himself.

Sell him and get somebody good in.

Unless somebody can tell me why I'm wrong.

Kuyt is starting to do my head in.
Brilliantly anticapated header against Porto in Europe, then he by all accounts he didn't play well y'day against Brum at home, needs more consistenty in his game and he gets on my tits that he keeps dropping into midfield. YOU'RE A STRIKER DIRK...STAY THE **** UP FRONT FFS.

He definately seems to be a worse player this season than last, some will argue he's always been this way, but for me he was definately better last season. maybe he just hasn't got out of the blocks yet, maybe personal matters are affecting him (he might have a lot of worries since the death of his dad), maybe the chopping and changing of strike partners isn't suited to his play. I'm confident he'll improve over the next few weeks

So is Kuyt the Dutch Heskey?

Like you I appreciate strikers for their skill at goal scoring rather than their work rate, and for prolonged periods yesterday I sat there with the uncomfortable premonition that Crouch will be our leading scorer again this year, with 7.
I had hoped that Torres would enable us to break down defensive teams more readily, and bring in a lot more goals, but he cannot do that from the bench. If he must be rested I would prefer that he came on for the first half, put the game beyond Birmingham, and then left for an early night, rather than bringing him along just to watch us huff and puff for 70 minutes.
                  Liverpool FC über alles.

He plays where rafa tells him to play, which as we've heard more often than not from Rafa is between the lines

Youre totally right. You will get a lot of this "he's great, look how hard he works" bull****, but the fact is that anyone who thinks that a good "workrate" and not much else is good enough for the pool is a silly sausage.

Voronin will prove to be another Kuyt aswell IMO.

Dude he plays as a centre midfielder most of the time, ok Rafa probably tells him to drop deep but not that bloody deep and not that frequently.
He's a striker, not an attacking central midfielder.
