Not good enough for Spuds not good enough for us.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostDefoe?!?!?!?
Spurs RESERVE who can't even get in their matchday squads, and some want us to sign him?
Defoe's ****.

I think Tomasjj has a point.
If Crouch or Kuyt were to go I'd also like a Litmanen type to be signed.A humble guy with healthy desire.

No, we don't need another QUICK striker, we just need to play Torres in all the Premiership games
Torres and who ever plays beside him should dominate the Premiership (and Champions League for that matter). But benching our best scorer (who is in top form at the moment), wont help anything
We have all the talent in our squad, we just need to use it more often. Why spending money on another striker, when Torres is sitting on the bench all the time?
Although, if we sell a striker in January, then we can buy a new one.Torres Fan Club Member #2, Lucas Leiva Fan Club Member #1

Aguero would be an interesting option. During the summer I remember reading somewhere that he has an afffordable release clause in the region of 25-30 million euros.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostAgree, although Villa is clearly no stop gap and is a class striker.
There's no point at all in signing the likes of Bellamy, Anelka, Defoe, Owen (in his current state). They're either mediocre or too injury prone to be relied upon.
Villa fits the bill perfectly for me. If Rafa can prize him from Valencia then that would be remarkable.
I also like Aguero, although he's more of a number 10 than an alternative to Torres. Villa could be an alternative to Torres or a partner for Torres. Those 2 up top would cause havoc

Torres can't play EVERY game, certainly not at maximum efficiency.Originally posted by cobain View PostNo, we don't need another QUICK striker, we just need to play Torres in all the Premiership games

Also variety is what troubles defences, it's possible to man mark Torres virtually out of the game. We need options.
I don't know if villa is a realistic target but every player has their price. I didn't think Torres was a realistic target TBH.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

I know he can't play all the games, but our opponents always prepare themselves to play against Torres and when he's not playing, they're f'kin buzzin! I bet Steve Bruce and his defenders were shagging themselves with joy in the dressing room after they saw the team-sheet.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostTorres can't play EVERY game, certainly not at maximum efficiency.

OK, I might have gone a bit off-topic here ...
Still, I don't think we need another striker. How many do we need? 5, 6, 7? And why, oh why, do we always have to buy players, we have a few in the academy/reserves, who might do well (Lindfield is quite good and Idrižaj and half bad either).

We need another world class striker, Torres is the only one who fits that description in my opinion. He is the one who puts fear into even the most experienced defenders.Originally posted by cobain View PostI know he can't play all the games, but our opponents always prepare themselves to play against Torres and when he's not playing, they're f'kin buzzin! I LOVE Crouchie, I don't want him to go, but he looks the most likely to make way and if it's for the progress of the side then so be it.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

Plus we have his international striking partner in Torres. Something for him to bear in mindOriginally posted by The Erectile Banana View PostIf we can get Torres we can get Villa.
I don't see why not. We have the resources to aim higher now.

I think 40 million is unrealistic, but who knows, it's pure speculation. I think we'd get him for between 25 and 30 million. Crouch would go for 12 million, so potentially 18 million more outlay for a striker that could win us the title. Winning the title is worth SO much more than 18 million and the Yanks have to get that new stadium filled so they have to give us a team to thrill us.Originally posted by DJS View PostWhat do you think they'd want though mate? Surely best part of £40m...if not more. Secondly, do you think the yanks would seriously sanction that?
It's all just pie in the sky at the moment, but I can see the Yanks going for it, what's 18-20 million to them?Originally posted by Gordon Brown

That's my belief too. 30 million tops IMO.Originally posted by Morphorino View PostNow way would Villa cost 40m, for example given chelsea paid 30m for Shevchenko and that is with inflated chelsea spending, I very much doubt it'd be any higher than that, I think 20-25 mil would be the asking priceOriginally posted by Gordon Brown

thing is Babel has always been out on the wing everytime I saw him play for Holland and Ajax, or he'll be on the left of a forward 3. But i do agree, i think his natural postion will end up being upfront.Originally posted by cobain View PostIt's something Liverpool managers tend to do. They love to put strikers on the wings. GH did it with Diouf, Rafa did it with Cissé and now with Babel ... And then you have Wenger who creates the best striker in the world out of a winger in Henry :whatever:
