I don't think we need a striker in Kuyts position. We need a attacking playmaker, like Kaka, Totti or Zlatan.
Not realistic players but that is the type of player we need in that position.
That would speed up our game and Torres would get better support. Torres would also get more space because our opponent would need to close down the attacking playmaker if he is good enough.
It's clear that we need another attacking player because right now teams can put two, three players on Torres because they know that our other attacking player isn't good enough.
Torres would get more space if our opponent had to worry about another excellent attacking threat.
We also need a attacking playmaker to be able to break down teams like Birmingham at home much easier.
I'm not sure your focus on one player is the right thing to do. We need the front four to be more aggressive and creative in tight games (and to make room for the CMs to burst forwards) as a unit. I think that the players we have are capable but I think that Babel and Pennant (or whoever else plays on the wings) have to take more responsibility for creating play in more central areas and moving it higher up the pitch.
At the minute when Torres doesn't push the opposition defence into playing deeper then all of our attacking players bar one tend to be too deep. Personally I would like to see Kuyt pushed a little further forward but there are many ways the problems can be over come (admittedly including AFIIs playmaker idea).
I think it is partly a function of so many new players and I suspect that the rotation will improve as players get to know each others games.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, swedish Juventus striker, formerly of Ajax.
Zlatan is now considered to be as good as Kaka in Italy. He is the top scorer in Serie A and works his socks off in game after game.
He isn't the same type of player that he was two, three years ago, back then he wasn't even close being a team player but now he works his socks off in every game for the team.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

Someone working his socks off as much as that would be left with the pair of them pretty unusable afterwards.

I think he can afford new ones or maybe Inter could pay for new socks.

Or he could even not wear them at all. The idiom should be rephrased to 'working his shoes off' in that respect. This would lead to playing bare footed in the end.

I haven't seen him since he's joined Inter so I can't comment.
When he was at Juve however I was in the Martin O'Neill camp in that he thought he was the most over rated player in the world.

Just like every lock's got to have a key
Every river flows looking for the sea
And when you plant a seed, it reaches for the sky
That's just the way it is, nobody wonders why
Like coffee needs a cup you know that it ain't much good without it
We were meant to be together, no doubt about it
Like a hammer and a nail, socks and shoes
We go hand in hand, like a rhythm and blues
What good is a man who hasn't got a dream
Bout as good as a car with no gasoline
You're the one I'm dreaming of got to have your love can't live without it
We were meant to be together, no doubt about it
No there ain't no doubt about it
Something was missing it was making me blue
But all I ever needed was you
Just like every lock's got to have a key
Every river flows lookin' for the sea
And when you plant a seed, it reaches for the sky
That's just the way it is, girl with you and I

I agree we need a attacking playmaker type of player. Benayoun fits the mould so we should give him a chance first but if he doesn't work out we should invest heavily in this type of player. Gudjohnsson is a good call IMO. He probably would not be too expensive as well as accepting his role as we would not use this type of player every game.
Besides that we need world class wingers (that stay fit!!) but that is another story.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

FFS. We need him playing in pretty much every game, or we will be out of the league by the last 10-15 games. The other 3 strikers are no wa near good enough IMHO.

A good player when he puts his mind to it yes, but lacks a little in the finishing department asnd is a lazy disinterested ****er at times.
