Here's an interesting fact :
"Statistically, an individual player sustains one or two minor injuries a season and can expect a major injury every third season," Professor Jan Ekstrand, vice-chairman of Uefa's medical committee.
and statistically the higher the level of football the greater the chance of injury:
Prof Ekstrand found that a player was six to eight times' more likely to be injured in a Champions League match than in training
Some years we suffer what seems like a bad spate of injuries and it knocks our season off track but if the frequency of injuries is known then we can develop a squad size and depth that mitigates against this.
Our squad seems better able to adapt to this reality than all other teams except probably Chelsea. Good news.
Long gone are the days when Liverpool reacted to Kenny Dalglish complaining of a groin strain by simply telling a seamstress to tighten the striker's jockstrap with a needle and thread.
