Riise hasn't scored in the league for nearly a year mate. Its just that most of the goals he does score are ****ing belters.
So name me a left back who scores more then?

One shot away at PSV which flew into the top corner and another shot away at the Camp Nou with his right foot which also flew into the net. I make that two squire.
The second goal got us through the tie - but don't give the lad any credit for it though. It's only Riise after all..................

        Well in Parm.
He doesnt score many though, and when he does its usually when Rafa is playing him as a left mid.

Besides i dont measure a LB on his goal scoring exploits. Their main task is to defend, and Riise is a liability in that department.

He has been a great servant of our club. But he just isn't good enough anymore in my eyes.

......We say his days are numbered, he's not good enough anymore......But Riise plays at left back like he's always done before....

I haven't read the whole thread (I will hopefully get round to it this afternoon), but I'd just like to point out how different the perception of Riise is to non-Liverpool fans who don't watch him week-in, week-out or watch him for the full 90 mins and know what a liability he can be defensively.

At the time of the whole Heinze thing my boss who's a Manc was asking me why we'd want to sign Heinze when we already have one of the best left-backs in the league!?! You can watch highlights on MOTD, or see the occasional live league game where Riise hits a screamer from 30 yards, or whips in a good cross, and think he is a great attacking full-back. Then seasoned followers like us who see him week in, week out and see how much of a liability he can be, how he pulls out of tackles and how poor his positional play can be.

I've nothing against the lad, I think he offers us a great attacking option on the left side and has been a great servant but positionally and defensively he is weak and sometimes his judgment is poor.

In fact, people like Riise do my nut sometimes - is there anything more infuriating than someone who has a shoot on sight policy outside the area when there are often better options available like looking for a team mate?

Hes a squad player no more, no less, who IMO would have been moved on this summer had we signed Heinze.

Seriously though, I honestly can't believe some of the things on here about Riise

As Parm said he has his faults but he also has his good points and I for one respect him as one of our players who has given great service and IMO still has a lot to offer

Although TBH his form of late hasn't been great but then again neither has the form of our beloved Stevie G

He's just scored 2 (?) goals. He might go another season before he gets another. Far far too early to class him as a goalscoring fullback. But I see why you nominated him.

Look in the goals against column to see his real worth. He's part of (I believe) the best drilled defence in the Premiership so to say he's a liability is quite frankly laughable.

I actually think that Finnan is a good deep crosser - the problem is that he doean't go past his winger enough and when he does he tries the same sort or cross he would do from deeper and in that case you do as you say need to whip it in.

Riise has the opposite problem for me he is a decent crosser in midfield when he is further up the pitch (not great but decent) but his deep crosses are aimless and present little danger.

Dont know what that says about Riise
I think that Arbeloa is a good leftback and he is good at passing the ball into midfield and not hoofing the ball. However Riise is better at him at offering an option of running with the ball and even though he is not a great crosser it is still a big advantage to do it left footed on the left wing IMO. I don't think that Riise is a liability defensively I think what is keeping him out of teh team is the fact he doesn't keep the ball well enough, which Arbeloa does.

In general I think I agree with Parm that Riise is a good player and has been a good servant to us but he does have flaws. People tend to concentrate on the latter to an unfair degree with him IMO.

It helps that the other 3 defenders in our rearguard are world class, and we have one of the best keepers in the game. The amount of times Agger has to cover his player is shocking, and while Agger has been out it has become even more noticable. Due to Sami's lack of pace he isn't able to cover like Agger can.

His positional sense is laughable mate. He is a dodgy defender, plain and simple.
Im not slating him, he was one of my fave players, but he's just not good enough anymore as a first choice LB.

Aurelio is the worst player in our squad. He is hopeless.

Riise is a solid left midfielder and can be used at left back in games where we will have 70% of possesion like at Anfield against B'ham.
