I was there too. If I remeber rightly Hoddle scored a screamer to put Spurs 1-0 up, Souey clattered him and that was it..we took over and battered them.
Hoddle's was a cracker alright, the ball flew in the kop end.
I think Lawrenson scored that day and possibly Kenny.
My memory is fading - twas so long ago......
With all due respect to Lec, I don't care what he tells me- I saw the evidence with my own eyes. I'm old enough to have seen that side play regularly and there has NEVER been a better side imho. Better players indiviudally in certain positions - Hansen, Rush, Lawrenson - but never a better team. That Midfield had absolutely everything. Physical power, pace, passing, tackling, aggression, balance, shooting accuracy and power. That is the greatest midfield of all time in my book.
as a summation of everything midfielders should be, i think that is fairly complete - maybe add in vision/guile. so how does our present "best midfield in the world" measure up to this list? how does each player measure up? specifically, how does SG measure up? the fact that i ask at all makes my opinion fairly clear...

Nowhere near mate. Gerrard is a poor man's Souness with more mobility and pace, but less aggression.
We don't currently have a Terry Mc (Gerrard is the closest thing we have - a runner who can finish)
We certainly don't have a Jimmy Case (solid, hard worker, who was as hard as nails, could cross and shoot)
And we don't have a Left Midfielder who had the strength, touch and vision of Ray Kennedy
It was mate. There's never been another in this country to match it - although (even though I hate to admit it) Giggs, Scholes, Keane and Beckham came close.
I was at that game in the Annie Rd near the Spurs Fans, As the teams came out they threw ticker tape all over the place a la the World Cup in Argentina, as they just signed Villa & Ardiles.
They were well up for it at the start, should have seen their faces when Terry Mc netted the 7th ( The Glove is right, best Liverpool goal ever)
If memory serves me right think it only cost 60p to get in & 10p for the program, value for money back then despite getting in line at the turnstiles at 12.30 to make sure you got in.
