Good point - all the arguments are kind of moot when you consider the amount of rotation that goes on. Whether you're a gerrard, alonso, mascherano, sissoko, leiva fan, they're all going to get plenty of games anyway.

I can't see Lucas staying if he won't play. He plays in the same position as Sissoko and I would pick him ahead of Momo in almost every game.

I agree with you that the future may be selling Sissoko, but I don't think Jan is the right time. We need to secure MAscha first - it seems to me the reason Momo was signed to a long term deal in the summer was because Rafa had concerns regarding how easy it would be to make the Mascha deal permanent.

I haven't asked you to prove that Gerrard is better than Alonso, all I've asked you to do is justify your comments that "Gerrard is 10 times better than Alonso in every aspect" by listing these "aspects" that you allude to. List all the attiributes that Gerrard has in which he is 10 times better than Alonso, eg passing, tackling etc. The way I see it you should be mentioning every characteristic of a footballer, and saying that Gerrard is 10 times better than Alsono in each case - if I read your comments correctly.

Explain to me where I have venerated Lec in to God-like status? All I have said is that he is a respected poster who is extremely knowledgable about football and his views should be considered before you spout out nonsense to the effect that Alonso x 10 = Gerrard.

Earlier in the thread someone said we'd have won 5 of our last 6 games if Alonso had been playing. All I will add to that is it's a bit disrespectful to our other 9 highly paid, talented outfield players if the absence of 1 player means we struggle against the likes of portsmouth, wigan, tottenham and birmingham. In summing up, the whole team is out of sorts and the return of 1 player, repositioning of another or whatever, isn't the answer to our problems.

I really don't know what you expect me to say. I can't "prove" Gerrard is a better player than Alonso anymore than you can prove the opposite - it's all about opinions, and that is where you really struggle in an adult debate...failure to accept and respect opinions without resorting to abuse. And as for this "Lec" hero of yours - I thought he was just another poster here, not some kind of webgod with superior knowledge and wisdom. I've seen no evidence of his genius, neither have i heard nayone esle refer to him in such high esteem as you do.

If you check back over my previous ramblings, you'll see that I've never said he's not a good player. I just think he used to offer a lot more and IMO has been out of form for well over a year when you compare his performances for us in his first season. If he got that form back I'd be demanding he starts whenever possible!
I have no anti-alonso agenda - I just think we'd be better off with Mascherano playing there instead.

Way too defensive - the opposition could stick 10 men on Torres and guarante we won.t score. Gerrard is a must for his goal threat. Even if his recent inconsistencies suggest otherwise, we all know he is the one player capable of turning things and winning a game on his own and needs to be in the middle of the pitch as often as possible.
