If he's play acting then a penalty should not have been given, if he was fouled it is a penalty - simple as that!!

AFII, you've come up with some pearlers in your time but this one ranks with the very best!!!

That was a penalty, he foot was caught and he was running at pace.

Some of his domestic penalty box antics have been nothing short of embarrassing...

There is a difference IMO of blatantly diving (ala Pires) and play-acting compared to being 'clever' and winning the odd pen here and there, ala Stevie G

The moral of the story is, dive when the time is right. don't do it too often at every opportunity or we will look like we abuse diving.
If I was playing in an important match, and someone tried to take me out, and only slightly clipped me (not enough to go down) and we were to get a good advantage from it, I would go down (non sexually)
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                    * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

Surely one is a result of the other?

The Villa one was a nonsense. Cant remember the Spurs one.

That wasn't a dive though was it? The Villa player (arguably) obstructed him, and he got the free kick mainly by turning around and waving his arms at the ref.

Stevie's crying in the face of the ref was what won the free kick.
