I am old enough to remember the "friendly derbies, when blues and reds walked up to the ground together

It all went pear shaped after Hysel the subsequent ban (rush to judgement by that bitch thatcher)

They had just won the league and blame us for them not getting a crack at the european cup and that they lost some good players (gary Lineker) They firmly believe that had it not been for the euro ban that they would have gone on to rule world football for
      like...forever

things were made worse in 2005 when for a week or 2 they thought they could laud it over us all summer..................................then came the 25th of may
Lawrenson:"Well thats 3 good chances they have had in the first 3 minutes of this half"

Motson:"" Yes Mark, you could almost say that they have had 3 chances in as many minutes"

Lawrenson: Errr I thought I just did say that, John"

still happens brian as i go with me cousins and my brother in law. funnily enough though we never meet each other after the game. me brother in law and me nephew get tickets from redblood and sit in the kemlyn rd and in the past 4 years have never had such as a bad word said to them and all along me nephew with his blue shirt on. he also says that if they were both reds he wouldnt take his lad to goodison on derby day cos of the real danger from some of these wannabes. ive never had a ticket for the bullens rd for some reason but never had a problem getting one in any other part of their ground

I went to my first derby last season. I wanted to experience the great atmosphere I'd heard so much about. IMO it was nothing special and the atmosphere was poor. I went to the Bolton game the year before and the atmosphere was just as poor in the derby. So now, I've booked a trip to the Champions League game against Porto. I hope to experience Anfield at its best...

I know about the poor atmosphere, but I thought the derby would be a different story. Its not...

I've been to a few derby matches, both at Anfield and the dry-rot ridden conference ground across the park.

My family are mostly blues, including my brother who has been to Anfield with me at least a couple of times to watch the reverse fixture.

I've never enjoyed the atmosphere at these games - far too tense IMO (a uniquely, strange, venomous atmosphere) and the football is invariably rushed and poor. I'll be glad when it's over. As I read somewhere earlier - it's just three points to us but a Champions League Final to them.
