The Spanish striker missed his country's Euro 2008 qualifier in Denmark over the weekend with a thigh problem and is now back in Liverpool working with the Reds' medical team.

"Fernando was assessed by the club's medical staff this morning and underwent a scan which confirmed an adductor injury," said club spokesman Ian Cotton.

"He will now undergo intensive treatment at Melwood."

If Torres is fit enough to take part than he should play.

            Simple as that.

Whether that's from the start or as a sub is open to debate but he definitely needs to play some part.

I would have him on from the start as he can make more impact this way than coming on when/if the game is slipping away.

He is our biggest goal threat and we need him for what is the biggest game of our season so far.

You can't take a chance with a hamstring/thigh injury. It's better to rest him a few extra days than losing him for at least a month.

I know that it's crucial games but if he gets another problem with his thigh then it could affect him the whole season.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Well, the last thing we would want is Torres to develop a recurring injury problem.

However if he is fit enough to start the game then I think he should play.

It's a tough call but given our current lack of goals and form we really cannot afford to be without him, so if he's available he has to play.

Liverpool boss Benitez confident of Torres derby fitness
                  tribalfooball.com - October 16, 2007

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is quietly confident Fernando Torres will be fit for Saturday's derby against Everton.

"He is much better and improving," said Benitez. "At the moment though it is too early to say anything about the weekend.

"It's always a risk when a player has an injury and we have to be careful. He is back with us now and working with the presenter of LFC TV."

Meanwhile, midfielder Xabi Alonso says his chances of making the derby are 50-50.

"I am progressing," Alonso told Liverpoolfc.tv. "In the last few days I have started running on the roof, which is good news because I've been spending a lot of time in the gym.

"It's always a relief to get back exercising on the pitch and at the moment it's looking good, but I don't know if I will be fit enough to be ready for the derby.

"The fact it's the derby doesn't make me more determined - I'm always determined to recover as quickly as possible. I want to be back as soon as possible but I have to respect Est 1892. I have to see how they feel."
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Yes, the ones with the presenter, the roof and Est 1892.
