    The season to date

    22 October 2006
    Played 9 Won 3 Drawn 2 Lost 4 GS 9 GC 11 GD -2 - 11 points

    22 October 2007
    Played 9 Won 5 Drawn 4 Lost 0 GS 16 GC 5 GD + 11 - 19 points

At the moment we are not playing well, but the difference is we are still picking up results, something the Scum have been doing all season, and that is being completely overlooked.

Arsenal's start to the season has been incredible, even based on last season they would be three points clear at the top, but their 9 games include 6 at home and 3 away. Ours are 4 at home and 5 away (where coincidently we are 2 wins away from matching our away wins for the whole of last season)

6 weeks ago we were the best team in the league and were going to walk home (bull****); 6 weeks later we are the worst team in the league, Rafa has last the plot and we'll be lucky to qualify for Europe (bull****).

Rafa's decision to take Stevie off, like it or not, worked with Momo staying on the field. I was shocked for all of 30 seconds until I noticed we were more calm and a lot more threatening. SG was trying to do too much, when what we needed was sustained pressure of 11 men against 10, we got that and we on won. (And don't say it was because of 2 penalties, because Lucas had scored in open play before the son of Neville Neville pulled off the save of the season)

We are in a far better position to win the league this season and I can see signs (first half against Spurs; periods against Everton) that we are slowing regaining some form.

The way I see it we are coming out of a dip with a few scratches, but still very much in the battle.

Arsenal at home is a huge test for as, but it's the same for them, and we will have Alonso, Agger and Torres ready for battle, the fight for the title is still very much on.

I'm not blind to the fact we are not playing well, but neither have I failed to notice the late goals, grinding out results when needed and signs of improvement.

Very good post and pretty much sums things up, it's a mark of a good team to still pick up points when playing badly. The scum were experts at that during the 90's and the chavs also had the knack of doing it in their title winning seasons. How many times have you seen either of those two play complete ****e yet walk away with 3 points. Also contrary to popular belief we ourselves often ground out results during the 70's and 80's heydays.

also do the scum or chav fans ever complain like alot of our fans bout how they win if they play crap and win, i came into work this morning and alot of my LFC budddies were being as pesemistic as usual, i told em to piss off and who cares how we won and if it had been the scum or chavs the media would've been saying the "oh mark of champions" bollocks

The thing is though that both Arsenal and United have been improving their form while picking up results. We on the other hand show no sign of 'turning the corner' and suddenly producing some good games. You can only rely on fighting through for a short period of time.

I think a result against Arsenal would do wonders for us. We will have to put in a much better performance than we did on Saturday though.

That's a fair point, however i do think missing Alonso and Agger both at the same time has had an impact on the way we play. It's clear Alonso is the player Rafa turns too most in order to get his message onto the pitch and Agger allows us to defend higher up the pitch. Would Arsenal be the same with Cesc and Toure missing from their team plus their fixtures have been easier than ours. All teams go through various levels of form during the season, we've had a bad patch and have avoided defeat, the Arsenal game is massive now though.

It's still our best start to the season in a long time isn't it? WE've also had a few injuries and an international break that came at the worst time possible for us(the one previous to this one). I would have taken the league table as it looks now, if offered it three months ago. Without a doubt.

the season is on a knife edge. lose to arsenal and we're one step away to it being over for us. win against arsenal and we're right in it.

But last season, we had Everton, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Bolton away, in our first 6 away games. Easy to forgert that.

Bit of an easier start this time, hence our away record so far.

But no one was seriously claiming we were going to walk it, and no one is now claiming we'll be lucky to qualify for Europe.

I know it's tempting to exaggerate, in order to emphasise a point, but it's somewhat off the mark here.

I'm not saying they're easy games. But Villa away is a easier than Arsenal, Chelsea or United away.

As for Spurs and Chelsea, they were at home, so dont really relate to the comparison with last season's away form.

We beat them both at Anfield last year, and this year, we're 4 points down in that comparison...

And the whole 'but they are hard games' is exactly the kind of mentality that'll see us not win the title.

Title winning sides will win their home games and go to places like Villa and win.

                          You didn't spell **** right

If Arse beat us we'll be 9 points behind after 10 games. That's a long way back. Not impossible but a big lead to give away so early. It means we'd have to be pretty much foot perfect from that point on.

                          Is that controversial really?

The direct comparison is in my signature. We're two points up over all the league games so far.

Your signature is balls mate, because we didnt lose 3-1 at home to Arsenal last season. Not in the league anyway.
