    The obligatory Stevie G thread

Has once more proven that he is too good to waste as one of Rafa's (defensive/playmaking) CMs.

How do we convice Rafa that he needs to build the team around SG without taming his natural skills.

    I say, sod 442, let's switch to 4231.

Once again he was far & away our best player. Only SG, Reina & Yossi gave exceptable performances.

SG is a man amongst boys at the moment, with Torres out we have only 1 goal threat and this is the man so many on here regularly criticise.
C'mon all those that said he's a big head, that lucas can replace him, etc etc, what have you got to say for yourselves tonight

Have to disagree. I thought SG was just too hurried whenever he gets the ball. If he wants to play in CM, he has to realise giving away the ball in the centre of the field puts the defence immediately under pressure...

Good goal anyway. Just wished he stepped up in terms of leading on the pitch instead of off it. I thought we were lacking in direction for most of the game.

And yeah, I think he's a big head.

We need an Alonso/Gerrard partnership in the middle. Make it happen Rafa.

But that's because we are trying to play him as a controller/playmaker. He's not one of them. He is an impact player. A bloody brilliant one. Setup up the team to expolit the best impact player around. That's all I am saying.

SG as a Rafa type CM is as you say awful!

He was our best player today, alongside Babel who had a good game after an injury lay off.

Seriously? I thought he was poor. Too many Hollywood balls. He tries the killer ball far too often when a simple option is on. He did look our most likely in front of goal but his midfield play was woeful.

Lets be honest if we're talking ****e players:

Finnan, Hyypia, Riise, Pennant, Babel, Voronin, Kuyt

Mascherano only escapes because he was doing what he was told

stevie took his goal well- a brilliant header

the rest of the game he played like absolute **** to be quite honest.

he wasn't the only one, but lets not pretend he's anywhere near top form.

he is starting to show glimpses of it, but still nowhere close

yossi must play more for me.

But they were our best players of the lot. Babel tried hard and he didn't play for quite a long time. He had one or two moments and created danger when he had the opportunity. Stevie, whilst wasting many passes, still kept going ... and scored.

                          That total bollox mate.
He was far & away our best player. He hardly gave the ball away all night but as the game progressed he had to try more ambitious balls to unlock their defence. I can't believe any fan could criticise SG tonight. He's in a differernt class to any other player we have

dreaming. he hardly passed it to a red shirt in the first half. at one point i counted 5 passes in a row where he gave it away. he was momo esque in his inability to keep the ball
