Aston Villa will break bank to sign Peter Crouch!

Aston Villa are desperate to sign Liverpool striker Peter Crouch in the January transfer window.

Manager Martin O'Neill is ready to break the £9.65 million club record fee which saw them land Ashley Young, to bring Crouch back to Villa Park.

England international Crouch spent a largely unsuccessful two-year stint in the Midlands after a £5m move from Portsmouth in 2002 and scored only six goals in 47 Premier League appearances before then-manager David O'Leary sold him to Southampton for £2m.

O'Neill remains an admirer of Crouch and enquired as to his availability back in August but is now ready to launch a bid to sign the 26-year-old who has scored 12 scores in 22 appearances for England.

Crouch has found himself down the pecking order at Liverpool this season following the summer arrivals of Fernando Torres and Andriy Voronin and has only started five games in all competitions this season.

Despite his bit-part role, Crouch is thought to still be happy at Anfield and is not seeking a move away from the club.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has also insisted that he wants to keep hold of his giant striker but could be tempted by a big-money offer.

Sven-Goran Eriksson has already indicated his desire to bring Crouch to Manchester City to bolster his current light-weight attack.

Would be a mistake to sell Crouch in Jan.

8 million for Momo, 5 or 6 for Riise, 10+ for Crouch.

It all boils down to whether there will be the quality of player we need available in Jan I guess.

i would only sell if we can get someone decent in - and most strikers could be classed as decent in comparison to the big fella

I thought they were going to break the bank to sign Carson, so are they going to break the bank for Crouch before or after they break the bank for Carson????????????????

I'm confused Do they have 2 banks to break or is it the same bank being broken again and again?

Or is this just wishful thinking for a little club like villa ?

Can we sign a striker who is as good as Crouch for £10m?

I wouldn't hurry and show him the door. He should start every game Torres doesn't in my opinion because Kuyt/Voronin is an impotent strike force.

in an ideal world these two could get us, from villa alone : 17.5m

17.5 million = quareama/mancini/alves one of them would be an improvement

momo + riise = 12.5m this should get us a decent centre half

then time to look out for a striker god knows who !!!! or who would even be available in jan that is world class. i wouldntgive a **** if they were cup tied as long as they improved our chances to win the league - AND WE CAN STILL WIN THE ****IN LEAGUE

and sign up Ramos if he is available.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I'd like to see Babel given a run up front before we consider making a purchase in the next window for a new striker.

Would Villa have 17.5 mil to spend ?

we wont get nowhere near 17 million for crouch and sissoko if they were both to leave. im no big fan of crouch but if a player of his calibre is allowed to leave for the likes of voronin or some other makeshift jockey then its time to question what direction this is all going in.

hmm, they certainly want our players dont they.

with the money we would get for Crouchie, Carson, Riise and Momo, we would easily be able to get Aguero and a defender.

                              £20m plus

                              Sissoko £8m-£10m
                              Carson £10m
                              Crouch £10m
                              Riise £5m

                              £53m-£55m.

I think it's very realistic prices.

And no, I don't play FM.

Aguero £22m, Ramos or Richards £20m, Mancini £10m.

Sold four players we don't really need and signed three we really need.
