I can't believe that with all the money in Football today and players like Gerrard making over 100K per week that there isn't a fund to help legends of the club

        Absolutely.

Players from the pre-92 era didn't earn crazy money and there must be more than just Ray Kennedy in need of some help.

Surely the top earning players, if not all of them, could have a small percentage deducted from their salaries to help the LFC legends who may need it - the people that helped make the club what it is today.

It's easy for us to sit here and say it but I'd like to hear a valid reason why something like this can't be put in place.

Didn't Tommy Smith have a problem with his incapacity benefit a couple of years ago because he'd managed to take a penalty? A fund to help retired players who fall on hard times would be a very good idea. The PFA probably have something on a national level but it would be good to see the club doing something for former LFC players.

He was my favourite player growing up. An absolutely superb player with a lovely left foot. This is a great idea and should be supported by every Arsenal and Liverpool fan.

If the club had a high profile friendly once a year - they could easily set up a trust for those guys - Its really sad to think that legends struggle through hardship after bringing so much joy to fans and accolades to the club on they way.

I think that is a fantastic idea.

Incorporate the friendly into the callendar and use it firstly to introduce the new players to the Anfield crowd before it all kicks off properly.

The day could be used to honour those players that have passed away during the past twelve months and a selection of those that are still with us into some sort of hall of fame.

Lastly the proceeds from the game could be used to help those ex players that may need it and other local charities.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

I was right behind that shot. We had a player down in the box (Sammy Lee I think) and Kennedy whacked it into the bottom corner. Ray Stewart equalised for West Ham to make it 1-1.

That was a different game. The one I mean was against the Mancs in 1983.

A disgrace he had to sell his medals.

I know he was here for only 8 years but surely a testimonial for a player who contributed so much would've been apt.

And if he did have to sell his medals couldn't the club have bought them and put them in the museum?

That was Barney Rubble as well. Long range effort that skipped into the bottom corner to pull us level; Whelan's curler in extra time won it.

My take on Ray Kennedy is here. Feel free to ignore if you've already seen it.
