Been looking at him for a while..

    Reds join Kompany hunt
By Gerrit van Leeuwen - Created on 6 Dec 2005

Liverpool could rival Chelsea for the signature of Anderlecht youngster Vincent Kompany.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is a keen admirer of the 19-year-old and the Premiership champions have been monitoring his progress for some time.

The likes of Arsenal, Barcelona, Real Madrid and, more recently, Internazionale have all been interested in the highly-rated young defender.

Chelsea have been the most serious candidates of late, with Belgian side Anderlecht admitting that a deal could be sorted out soon.

Kompany has said that he would favour a move to England or Spain, and now European champions Liverpool have him in their sights.

Rafa Benitez knows he has to strengthen his squad in January, and wants some top-class cover at centre half for Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher.

Reports in Belgium say that Anfield scouts will watch Anderlecht's UEFA Champions League clash with Real Betis on Tuesday to check out Kompany in action.

Liverpool and Chelsea are in the same Champions League group as the Belgians, but Kompany missed out on the two games against The Reds through injury.

This guy is a top class Defender, a skillful, pacy lad who would be an ideal replacment for Sami.

Been around for ages, a bit like Torres and is still only 21.

Would be delighted if we signed him.

think he's the real deal. can't see him sitting on the bench. if we bought him i can see us playing 3 at the back far more often.

If Rafa decides to go for him, we will have a very good pair for the future in him and Agger. Two CB who are very good on the ball. And with all due respect, if he turns out to be as good a defender as Agger it would mean a vast improvement over Carra and Hyypia.

Can anyone actually comment on his ability from real life and not foot manager?

                      Kompany does looks good

Having Agger and Kompany together would allow our midfield to push forward more too.

Let them bring the ball out of defense etc.

He's a decent ball player, generally quite classy. Theoretically I could see him playing as easily with either Agger or Carra.
