Mascherano says will only play for Liverpool

LONDON (Reuters) - Javier Mascherano will quit English football if he fails to agree a permanent move to Liverpool, the Argentina midfielder said on Sunday.

"I only want to play for Liverpool," Mascherano told newspapers. "I hope the situation will be sorted in the next month.

"If I cannot play for Liverpool I will not play for another club in England. Not even Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United."

Mascherano signed an 18-month loan deal with the Anfield club when he left Premier League rivals West Ham United in January.

That's great to hear because this guy is only going to get better and better, he is only 23!!

I think JM is enjoying his time at LFC.
He obviously also believes that he 'owes' us for rescuing him from West Ham and then giving him the opportunity to show just how good he is. He could never have dreamed of playing in the Champs League Final, and must be more than happy to have team mates like Gerrard, Alonso and Torres

"I don't want to keep moving every summer but if I don't play in Liverpool, I won't play for another club in England. Not even Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United. It would be impossible to play against Liverpool for another English team."

So we sign Mascherano, hopefully. We then have Gerrard, Alonso, Macherano, Momo, Leiva and Guthrie in our books.
Two will have to go, and it will be Momo and Guthrie. Those sales will hopefully bring us £10M.
So an £7M outlay to get Mascherano sounds like good deal to me.

Is there a chance Momo returns to form?

Masher, Lucas and Torres are a big, big part of the future of our club.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

                      From the Offal

The player Maradona described as a 'monster' is desperate to extend his Anfield deal beyond the summer, claiming Merseyside is the best place for him to become a world-beater.

"By staying here I will become a better player and that way I can help Liverpool to be more successful," said the 23-year-old, who already has 33 international caps to his name.

"It would also be fantastic to form a long-term partnership with Steve Gerrard - everyone knows he is one of the best midfield players in the world."

Mascherano's declaration comes just days after Rafa Benitez reiterated his desire to keep the midfielder at the club.

"I am calm and relaxed about it," added the Argentine. "From my point of view it is simple - I want to play for Liverpool, I want to sign a permanent deal.

"I have told Rafa Benitez this and he has told me he wants to keep me.
"I have had enough of travelling the world from club to club. I want roots, and I want them here in Liverpool. I don't want to move again next summer but if I do not sign for Liverpool then I will not play for another club in England. Not Manchester United, not Chelsea or Arsenal.

"If I am not with Liverpool I don't want to be in England. It would be impossible for me to play against them in the Premier League because of the respect I have for the club. I want to stay in England, but only with Liverpool.

"The club created an opportunity for me which I am grateful for so no other English club will come into my thoughts."
"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.
