This sort of talk will exasperate Benítez when Liverpool are struggling in their Champions League group. The club's owners might find such views toxic and Anfield fans could have different aims from Gerrard. He will not budge. "Maybe that is supporters being selfish," he said, "but as a player you want to play in the biggest games. Those are European [Championship] games and World Cup games."

Think he's playing with fire a bit there personally.

I'm not sure about selling him personally but if those quotes are accurate I think Rafa really needs to look seriously at Carra for captain.

I thought scousers weren't supposed to give a **** about England?

We know how important playing for England is to him, but comments like that are completely unecessary.

he should've been stripped off the captaincy ever since the chelsea flirt.

One small factor that has been overlooked is that in the 70's, 80's and early 90's when there were hardly any foreign players in England, they still won **** all.

                  What was their excuse then?

The problem is these players have constantly been referred to as the golden generation but have yet to show it on the pitch.

Also makes you wonder, if his passion for England, caused him to choose to play with that broken toe, which we ultimtaely ended up paying for due to his poor form of the following 4-6 weeks

He's obviously been pushed by some crack head journo to make a remark about club vs country but he's gone too far. No need to say it's better to win something with England than LFC.

I'd love to hear what Carrra himself honestly thought of what Gerrard is saying.
