    Ah. Fair enough.

      Everyone get a grip.

He's representing England at a press conference before a (potentially) big England game - as captain.

He has to say some pro-England sh!t for the press.

If he begins to show anything but 100% commitment for LFC on the pitch, then start the anti SG stuff. Not now IMO.

He's playing to the England press. Just words.

i think that he shouldn't be captain of the club. i don't rate him as a captain. after the chelsea thing he should have never been allowed to stay on as captain but fair play to him because he offered to lay it down. comments like the one this thread is about are a poor by any means, especially for the captain of this club. it's the way he talks about his football and his role for club and country that i don't really like ... i rate him as a footballer though but i don't believe the hype

Indeed. And it looks like it was all in vain as England probably won't even qualify.

Last person who started talking like that was Michael Owen and we all know what happened to him. Plays 5 mins for Newcastle after months out then is in the England starting line up the week after.

"When I join up with England these games are bigger than Champions League games or league games," said. "You're representing your country. If you go to a major tournament and play well or achieve something as a team it's going to be a lot bigger than achieving something at your club."

This sort of talk will exasperate Benítez when Liverpool are struggling in their Champions League group. The club's owners might find such views toxic and Anfield fans could have different aims from Gerrard. He will not budge. "Maybe that is supporters being selfish," he said, "but as a player you want to play in the biggest games. Those are European [Championship] games and World Cup games."

Think he's playing with fire a bit there personally.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Aye. Winger was saying the same about England's lack of success from 66 til when he arrived & foreign players became more prevalent.

I really dont give a **** about Ingerland. I love the WC & Euro Cup, but only to see a feast of footy- as happy to watch them withour England as with.

Personally, I think this is typical Stevie bull****. His autbiog was marred by his cosying up to the likes of John Bull Terry & Ratboy****** Rio & I was pissed off with him for the England injury as I am for these comments. He is undoubtledly very dim-witted sometimes.
                              3rd place. Worst champions ever.
