If rafa was indeed to be replaced, at this moment in time there is a very short list of good proven managers available. Like him or loathe him Mourinho is near the top of that list.

I don't want rafa to go but if he goes we could do worse than Mourinho.

There are a lot on here who before rafa came would have welcomed M. I for one thought it brilliant the way he wound up fergie after porto beat the scum. I also remember for all his bluster the way he stayed on the pitch after the champions league semi-final and shook all of our players hands and applauded the magnificence of our fans that night. He also led chelsea to back to back prems.

I also think rafa is going against the liverpool way and washing his dirty linen in public!

IF Rafa is to be replaced then the summer is the only time to do such things. As has been pointed out by Big Red Ed, there are next to **** all good managers available right now.

The summer will be a different story. Practically everyone will be sniffing around should the worst happen in the summer.

It needn't be a football manager from this side of the water or even a football manager. A manager is a manager is a manager and I would be very happy if they brought in someone from the States to kick start things. Bite. Somebody please bite

Do you know, I was beginning to think I had dreamt watching that bit of the interview with all the anxiety on here over a NOTW article. I even posted the "not serious" comment and not one response, maybe people prefer all this angst. I'm not kidding myself that all is well but I would rather base my opinions on what I'be heard Rafa say than a NOTW journalist.

Thats because people seem to think they know better than everyone else.

Youre right, something is wrong but Rafa looked a happy chap yesterday and I think he'd know before Bascombe and a few other people if Mourihno or anyone was waiting in the wings. Just sit back and let it pan out because no matter what way it does, there is **** all we can do about it anyway so no point getting pissed at it. Im getting more and more concerned with only what happens in 90 minutes and not what goes on inbetween.

Well said. It's hard to think like that at times and to ignore all the speculation and rumours, but it's the best way to be. Roll on the Porto match and let's get back to the football.

It comes with time. Down the years Ive read so much ****e and so many false dawns and seen all manner of 'crisis' that have turned out to be **** all in the grand scheme of things. This is no different. Im in with LFC for what'll hopefully be atleast another 50-60 years so whats happeneing now, if anything does actually happen, will just be something I'll live with. As a wise man once wrote, 'Youve got to roll with the punches to get whats real'.

Mate if anything happened to Rafa and they installed this cunt, I would not watch a single minute of a liverpool game till all 3 ****ebags had vacated my gaff

Virtually everyone within football, who has had first had contact with JM has said what a gentleman he was, how friendly and respectful he was, and how likeable he was.

He did what he felt would give his team an advantage, and did it very well indeed. I dont for one minute think he's genuinely the villain many seem to think, he's a very intelligent bloke who knows how to say certain things which will swing things his way.

I dont particularly like him, i dont overly dislike him.

I do however respect his know-how and single-minded drive to achieve success.

I dont want Rafa to go because there are very few people out there who i feel could win the title for LFC. Rafa's one of them, so to lose him would be a loss. But Mourinho's another IMO. So if we lost one, getting another to replace him wouldnt be a disaster.

When push comes to shove, if a manager won us the title, we'd all be revelling in the glory and singing his name - regardless of who he was.
                              Good post!!!!!!

And former Kop hate-figure Jose Mourinho is the shock front runner to replace him.

Liverpool's American owners were already preparing to ditch the Spanish boss (left) after tiring of the constant behind-the-scenes bickering but this week's developments have sealed his fate.

It's now a matter of when not if the Spanish boss leaves Anfield and that's expected to be sooner rather than later.

Despite his epic Anfield bust-ups while at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho tops a wanted list already being assembled by the owners.

An approach will be made once Benitez's departure is confirmed.

The Portuguese boss may have his enemies on Merseyside, but he's recognised as one of the best and most sought after coaches in Europe.

Benitez showed no sign of ducking a fight with his hierarchy following yesterday's 3-0 win over Newcastle, despite knowing his job was on the line.

"It's clear Mr Hicks wants the best for the club. So do I," he said.

"We have been here for a long time and we know what the passion of football means and what the transfer market in Europe means.

"It's not a draft system. We have free players available now. I'm not talking about players that cost money.

"We need to talk to the agents now, if not we will lose targets. In the summer, the players will be more expensive. I have not been talking about spending but doing the opposite. We have brought money back. We brought in £26m this year and you can see the value of the squad.

"We had a meeting on the day of the Arsenal game which was really positive. After this, something changed."

They told me to be focused on coaching and training because Rick Parry will be looking after signing players."

                                Swing

Benitez won't walk away, adding: "I have passion for this club. The fans who were with me in Istanbul know what it means to me."

With no resignation on the horizon, Hicks (left) and Gillett are now ready to swing their axe regardless of Liverpool's league placing or Champions League progress.
