It would appear the G&H bid was the only bid on the table when it was accepted. At the end of the day though they haven't done a lot wrong IMO. If their slap down on Rafa stops him from using the press before every transfer window to enhance his position while undermining the club as a whole I for one will be very happy. I did not like Rafa's outburst after the CL final. It was fake and out of charachter and lets be honest these outbursts create to much tension for us fans.

I hope the meeting in a couple of weeks is critical in that all parties realise there are problems in communication and understanding of each other and their responsibilities. They must sort that out so that any future problems are dealt with INTERNALLY and RESPECTFULLY by all.

At the time of DIC's withdrawl Gillett & Hicks' bid was only being considered

      It hadnt been accepted

There is a lot wrong with the owners imo

Saying this wasnt a Glazer style takeover that there would be no debt on the club etc.. which appears to have changed somewhat with their new financial package

I didnt like the way they waived dollars around during the Champions League final interviews yet in reality they havent backed Rafa as considerably as they would like us to believe

If to obey the laws, the club needed to take into consideration G & H's offer, I find it strange that DIC did not wait a response from us until they'd finish the due diligence.

They wanted to force the deal through thats why they wouldnt wait

Reading Hansen's article yesterday, he makes a lot of good points about how Rafa needs to be more discrete from now on, and outbursts in the media do no favours for the club etc. And he's right of course. But it is clear that Rafa is media savvy and trying to use to use the press to get his way - it's not the first time he has done this I'm sure. Either way, if he was concerned about transfer policy and not being backed, the show of support from the fans and players has surely strengthened his position.

Either way, I agree that from now on these kind of things need to be conducted behind closed doors.

So in other words when both bids were on the table, the club did not prefer the American bid. When it was time to make a decision, there were no competing bids, there was only one bid on the table. Which means that after all the takeover talk that had been going on for months, all the comments from Parry about how this was the biggest decision in the club's history and they had to get it right, about how they were convinved DIC was the right partner to take the club forward and there were exciting times ahead for LFC, there was only one choice that had to be made: the Americans or no one? Either we go for the Americans and save face or we make oursleves look ridiculous and go through all this again if anyone else is interested. And they plumped for saving a bit of face, plus the fact that the American bid was higher than DIC's kind of made it easier to justify as well.

Does make me wonder if they genuinely thought the American bid was the better one for the club going forward or if they took it because they felt their hands were tied.

Why would they do that if they felt that the club didn't treat them in a good way?

If it would come out that you can dick them around then it would hurt them very much in other much bigger deals.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Well, if someone comes in late, like G & H did, the club, as a duty to its shareholders, had to listen to their offer. But as Lecter said, they knew that they were being done.

You must also consider that the club had a deadline to meet about the funds from EU and the city. They couldn't wait any longer if they wanted that money. Around £15m-£20m if I remember things correct.

That's what makes the whole thing about that they only withdraw their bid because of less than £100m so unbelievable.

£100m is pocket change for DIC.

The reason seems to be that they knew that Moores wouldn't sell to them and that Gillett and Hicks had them cornered. So, instead of waiting for wind, they withdrew.

The way DIC stormed off in a bit of a huff makes me think there's a lot more to it than jsut a simple case of setting a deadline which the club didn't meet. I'm willing to bet the club dicked them around in some way, may be used the Gillett/Hicks bid to angle for a higher bid from DIC? In any case, DIC seemed genuinely indignant at the way they were treated.

How do you know ? El Nino was a Rafa target, not the owners.

Rafa is the best I've seen in the media IMO. His destruction of Mourinho before the CL semi last year was outstanding. I loved every bit of it.
