I would like him given a couple games rest and bring in Insua as left back and play Arbeloa as right back.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

He`s not just a steady defender, when he overlaps with the winger he can put some great balls into the box,I love Finnan!!!!!

He's had a below par season so far but last night I'd have him as second to Torres for MOM. Who do you reckon had a better game then mate?

A great servant and hideously underrated. He’s getting on though and he’ll need replacing sooner rather than later.

solid performer but we do need to see if Arbeloa can take over the role (he offers a lot more attacking wise) or if Rafa will get the money to sign Alves/Richards (add in whoever you have signed on FM08).

Thought Torres, Mascherano and Gerrard contributed more. He had a good game though.

I thought he had a mixed game. Defended well on the whole but was carless in possession (as were all of the defence with IMO the exception of Carra who although still favours the long ball rarely presented it to the opposition in dangerous areas). He has started overlapping a lot more of late but his crossing in the final third is very inconsistant which is unfortunate as his crossing from deep is excellent.

From where I was sat, Mascherano got it for me. He just didn't stop. He really is a monster.

I thought Finnan did look very slow, and was also caught out of position several times meaning Carra was dragged out of position. In fairness though, he got no help from Babel, who was a lazy ****er last night.

I posted something similar a few weeks ago. He's highly rated by many at the club and Steve Heighway thought he was ready for the first team at the end of last season. Given his height and our powerful midfield I can't see him getting a game there. Maybe a chance in the team at rightback (like Gerrard did when he broke through) will give him the confidence to push on and make the break. Obviously to do that Finnan would need to be given a rest.

Stevie F played well, for sure, but I've been very worried about him both for Liverpool and Ireland. He turns like a cruise ship and sometimes look like he's running through porridge wearing wellies. He's definitely starting to creak but what a magnificent servant and signing he has been for the club, right up there with Sami. Masher was more to blame for the goal, the Porto lad handed him his arse with a flick of his shoulder, very unlike Masher.

Finnan has been decent all season but I think people are forgetting the chaos we've had on the right side during this campaign.

I contend that had Kewell not got injured that he and Riise would be clear first-choices down the left because they linked up very well in 2005-2006.

If we had a regular right-mid that was quality then Finnan would develop an understanding with that player. Instead he's had to partner up with Gerrard, Kuyt, Voronin, Babel, Yossi, Pennant and god knows who else during this season. It can't be helpful for a defender. Pennant was generally first-choice on the right last season and though he himself is not that great at least it gave stability to that side of the pitch.

Didn't think Finan was that good last night to be honest, my main gripe with finnan is he takes too long with anything, he deliberates with his passes only to generally end up giving it backwards, and his throw-ins take a age for him to decide I don't know how he's never been up by refs for this. DOn't get me wrong he's a great defensive player but he offers little going forward. We should be aiming for more versitile players like Arbeloa now, who can do both jobs well.

Finnan was outstanding last night. Hes been like this for a few games now but it seems to go unnoticed.

He is always our most potent attacking threat down the right, as he was last night, playing almost as a right winger.

                              Keep it up stevie lad.
