    Rafa hopes for pre-Utd meeting

    Rafa hopes for pre-Utd meeting
Talks with Reds owners could be brought forward

Rafa Benitez is hoping for a meeting with Tom Hicks and George Gillett before Liverpool's game with Manchester United next month.

The Reds manager had been involved in a stand-off with the club's owners last week regarding his plans for January's transfer window.

Benitez had been urged to focus on the immediate priority of results, and the Spaniard responded with convincing wins over Newcastle United and Porto.

American-based duo Hicks and Gillett are due on Merseyside for the 16th December game with the champions, but Benitez is keen to meet before that match.

    Ego

"I would hope to speak to the owners before the Manchester United game," said Benitez. "I don't know if that is possible, but we will try. But I don't know for sure.

"We have talked (with the owners) about different issues, but we did not have the same opinion at this moment.

"But I am sure we will talk again, they will understand and I will also understand their ideas.

"But I was hearing it was all about my ego. That is not true, the team is my responsibility. I can stay around and at the end of the month just go to collect my wages.

"But I cannot be like that, I want to improve my team and my squad. That is what I was trying to do. But I can only repeat that I do not have any personal problems with the owners."

Benitez appeared optimistic that the problems which have surfaced in his relationship with Liverpool's owners can be resolved by face-to-face talks.

    Analyse

He added: "My relationship with them was good before. Now we need to talk about what the problem was and move on.

"Maybe my English is not that good, maybe that was the problem. But it is clear we have to understand the situation and talk to each other.

"We must decide what is best for the future of the club, we can manage that. We will, I am sure, try to do that.

"I prefer only to say that as a manager you can only think about your squad. So January is nearly here and next summer is close also.

"So you must do your job, and I was trying to do this. Maybe we should talk now and analyse the situation. But I only want to talk, it is easier to talk face to face rather than to send e-mails or talk by phone."

It does really piss me off that - it's not the first time I've heard an interview live and then seen different word in a paper aricle. The most amusing of recent weeks was when depending on the paper you read Rafa said he was 'concentrating on coaching and training" between 9 and 25 times.

It would from now until they meet - Rafa did need to say something, especially after his reaction post-Newcastle.

but our owners must now also be prepared to that they may have to pay a little bit more for the central defender Rafa want.

£10m for Garay for example instead of £4m for Kaladze, IF the Kaladze story is true.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

What does this bit mean? :S

"...I can stay around and at the end of the month just go to collect my wages.

But I cannot be like that..."

I wasn't sure if this meant "I am not hanging around just to get the bullet" - or if he means "I am not the type to idle my time away at work. I like to stay busy"
"Sir, it's me sir. Jennings sir."

                    The latter mate.

I think he's trying to say he's not the sort of person to just sit on his arse and not earn his keep.

Cheers. I hoped it was that.

I think it's time Rafa kept his own council on these issues and stopped getting (mis)quoted by the press, especially that 'we did not have the same opinion' comment. I'm 100% behind him, but repeatedly bringing these topics up in interviews (even if he is answering direct questions) does not impress me. He should be a little more savvy than that. Time to get back to the Liverpool way of doing things behind closed doors methinks.

I'm not sure that at this point he has a lot of choice - the more evasive he is the more crap will get written. IMO he went too far before but now he has to talk about the issues and be concilliatory which to be honest was the way most of what he said was and how it has been most widely reported.

Obviously we all hope the problems between Rafa & G&H can be sorted but one good result last night won't cure everything. If G&H have lost faith in Rafa to bring home no.19 then I don't see how that can be sorted out. If on the other hand the issue is more to do with transfer budgets or who does the nitty gritty in the talks then there is hope, but even then you suspect it'll be Rafa who'll have to do most of the climb downing.

Well, it looks like Rafa want to do Parry's job so one of them will probably have to leave.
