New stadium update...

The bottom is the new one





The obvious differences between the 2 can be seen.
*We seem to have lost a row of executive boxes in the main stand.
*Roof designs have changed
*The 2 corner sections supports have been altered. They were a feature, but now just 2 uprights
*More seats in the bottom 2 corners of the Kop

To be honest, as someone has already said, the stadium design aint that big an issue. As long as it is large enough, allows a good enough atmosphere & is individual enough, then that's fine by me. This fulfils all of the criteria (as long as it gets built).

I cannot hepl but notice however, that the weather is worse on the new version. Just look at them clouds. That worries me.

So, basically, since they ballsed up and couldn't afford the first design they paraded with much bravado, now when the new one looking almost similar is released, meaning a further year delay on the finishing date and the revenue to follow, we should be happy?

I'm sure that if we had not had the sub-prime credit crunch that we would have got the original stadium. The fact that we have alomost the same stadium during a global recession / melt down is a pretty good deal. No?

I have seen some pictures on skyscrapercity and the missing boxes in the main stand are now in the opposite stand, originally all boxes were in 1 stand but seem to have been spread. The roof design seem's to be a simplificationand would be responsible for a huge reduction in costs, more seats in the KOP is great and who cares about the supports, I will be there to watch the team not the roof supports. Another change is that other than the KOP the rest of the inside of the stadium is a bowl, they even call it a bowl in the pics.

TBH As long as we can get 70K+ through the turnstiles I'm ok with it.

It certainly wont be the EYE CATCHING steel that the design initially had, It will most likely be the same stuff on Warehouses & similar developments where looks dont matter.

When you put it next to the original good one, the big feature, ie, the Bulging Steel bit, its drasticly different, does'nt look half as good.

If I'm being totally honset I have to say that it looks ****ing superb. I'm amazed that they've managed to keep the design so true to to original. I thought that, considering they were looking for HKS to shave roughly £150m off the cost, that it would be a total redesign and look completely different.

It still looks good though and I hope that we see a shovel in the ground soon. I'd like to see what the AFL design looked like just to compare them both.

I wonder what the status is with planning permission? As the stadium is almost exactly the same as the last one will the club continue with it's idea of starting the build with the lower capacity and then re-apply when building is under way for the increased capacity or will a new application be needed from the outset?
