    Interesting news...

i think no one here doubts you tbh, we all know you don't **** around with info like this. but we all are hoping for your source to be wrong this time...

AFL design would cost around £300m including the 'fit out' (i.e. the interior) whereas the HKS design would cost around £180m more without the 'fit out'.
do you have any idea as to how much this fit in would cost in the new one? so actual numbers can be compared, are we talking about 180 or 220-30 mill difference, that seems like an awful lot of money...

but still i'd rather fork that out than to be left with an ok stadium...

Like I said before, Sammy, I hope my mate is wrong but he's no reason to make it up. Knowing I'm a big Liverpool fan, he started off by asking "what's happening at your club these days?" When I asked why, he told me about getting the stadium job back. He reckoned it was all about money.

I don't like the original design but it will be a lot cheaper because there is far more brick and less steel and glass than the bolder, more modern HKS version.

As Sir Bob said, steel prices have shot up and it's far more difficult (and therefore expensive) for firms to raise finance for these projects after the US 'credit crunch'. It probably doesn't help that the pound is so strong against the dollar either. £480m is not far off a $1bn these days...

Either way, a new 70,000 design surely means another planning application, which means further delays? Losing faith in the yanks rapidly.

Perhaps Yozza or Bazza could confirm this but because the original design was already approved and we have since had a 70,000 stadium application granted I reckon it should just mean a variation to the planning consent.

Wasn't aware that we had a 70,000 stadium application granted.

Still I'd be extremely depressed to be stuck with the original design after we have been promised this new one. Would also be a massive PR gaff for the yanks.

It can't be true. I am always watching the New Anfield show on LFC TV.

I have zero sympathy with them.

Let's wait and see what happens because the next couple of major decisions they make will as far as I'm concerned ultimately determine whether or not they are frauds or not. No one can deny that so far they've come good with regards to the summer transfers and their promises to provide us with a state of the art stadium put them in a good light amongst most supporters. But if they fail to back Rafa further and they go back on their original stadium plans then there will be no hiding place for them.

I'm still hopeful that they will be decent owners for us in the long term but I'd be lying if I sadi I wasn't starting to be a little worried about what we've let ourselves in here for.

I've never been happy with H&G from the start for a number of reasons. First off anyone who is into LFC to make cash has to be treated with suspicion. I would have felt the same about DIC, or Kraft.

Also on a purely personal level Hicks in particular has close links with Bush and that for me is the last sort of person I want at LFC.

As for the summer I think they played a very clever hand. With buying Torres it felt like we spent alot of cash but in balance we spent relatively modestly.

Their recent treatment of Rafa was shocking and I am concerned with having them at the helm.

however, as far as the stadium goes, costs have dramatically shot up. i'm sure they would have been well aware of the steel market but the credit crunch was more unpredictable. Maybe they should have been aware of it, maybe they were but still pressed ahead with the new design.

The bottom line is though this Rafa business has lost them a lot of friends and if the new stadium design goes belly up, the level of unrest will go up a notch.

I believe it. Like you said, why would he bother bull sh!tting you?

I suppose all will be revealed shortly.

I was never really arsed about his personal relationship with Bush. They're most likely mates because they make each other millions rather than their love for bombing the sh!t out of the world.

If they f**k up regarding Rafa and then go back on their stadium plans then they won't have many supporters left on their side. Surely they can't be that stupid??

                          Not sure Iian mate.
It sounded like they were just going to re apply for an extension to the new Anfield design once it got full approval. Maybe a new stand behind the away end r something to that effect with a new rail line.
I know in Ireland, planning applications are valid for 5 years, I have no reason to believe it is different in England.
Now, I am not sure how long ago the original design went in, but it is begining to feel like longer than 5 years ago.
If say we do go back to the original design, except it is 70,000 odd instead of 61,000. I think we would need a whole new application, such is the difference betwen the two disigns.
I am no expert in Stadium design now. All I ever do is residential, some commercial etc. Nothing near the scale of this development.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
