Luck clearly isn't on our side at the moment!

Having watched last night's game I've come to the conclusion that we just aren't getting those breaks in games that a 'successful' team usually has along the road to glory.

Take Steven Gerrard for example. He came on last night in a hope of a final push to clinch all three points away from home, and that effort from Kuyt's through ball that hit the inside of the post summed it up for me. Last season that effort would probably have gone in off the inside of the post, but last night it bounced straight out from the inside of the post in typical fashion.

Then take his two attempts at Everton at the weekend which also hit the post, and maybe even the almost identical situation to the goal he scored for England where he took the ball down on his chest and lashed into the far corner of the goal - this time against Everton it flashed just wide of the goal instead of bursing the net as he did in his country's colours.

For me, the luck just isn't there at the moment that turns games in our direction (that Kuyt effort from distance that grazed the outside of that same post last night is also an example).

So, I'm just hoping that the tide turns our way, for a change, at the Bridge of all places on Sunday as we'll need a bit of luck down there, no doubt! Yes, maybe we aren't playing at our best, by far, but when the luck isn't with you either (and silly individual mistakes are made to make matters worse) then it makes the task even more difficult.

Therefore, here's to a change in luck for The Reds starting on Sunday!

What u reckon he odds of getting a penalty at Stamford Bridge this time are? I'm sure one of the dirty Chavs will handle the ball in the area, again.

      Good post.

I think it is a combination of bad luck and some shambolic defending...

Let's hope we get some luck at the Bridge...it is about time I think!

There's no chance we'll get a pen at the Bridge mate! Not even if Terry picks the bloody ball up with both hands!

To be honest, our poor record at the Bridge has been more to do with our inability than bad luck...

          0-2, 0-0, 0-0, 0-1 over the last four years...

We seem to defend well enough, but we pose very little when going forward...that's the problem I think...

Hopefully, we'll be able to nick an early goal...

            Good post mate.

We seem to go there with the attitude of trying not to concede firstly and hoping of nicking something at their end to win the game as a bonus.

I reckon that if we go there with the same attitude again then it'll be enough but I feel we really need to win there on Sunday to keep pace with the chasing pack, even at this early stage. We lost too many points against the 'big three' last season, which in the end cost us a real championship challenge, and we cannot afford to do the same again this season.

Yes, by all means keep it tight at the back, but I do feel that we need to commit players at times in the attacking third if we have any hopes of getting the win there. I expect Rafa to play Crouch up front on his own and beefing up the midfield with 'runners' to support him (e.g. Gerrard, Garcia, Pennant or possibly Bellamy even in a widthdrawn role). This won't be a bad idea as long as the support is there alongside Crouch when he has the ball in the final third - he's been so isolated against them at times over the past year in games that he's no option but to lose the ball after being out-numbered by them.

What is important though is that we need to score this time around as I feel we haven't caused enough of a threat to their goal in past games down there.

            Here's hoping!

Even more likely than that, is Lampard scoring a massively deflected long range effort. has that **** ever scored from a clean strike?

A result on Sunday all depends on what Rafa deems a good result. If he is happy with a point he will set his stall out to contain Chelsea and try nick a goal on the break. However I think the confidence gained after the Fa Cup & Shield games along with Chelseas new look midfield of Makelele, Essien, Lampard and Ballack might give Rafa the confidence to attack on Sunday. Chelsea are playing a very narrow game at the moment leaving space on the wings for players like Gerrard, Pennant or Gonzalez to expose!!!

Never mind us getting a penalty against them, we should be more worried about one being given agaist us. Did anyone see the pen they were given last night? Pathetic

They must the only team that has been given a pen this season for shirt pulling in the box - of course when it happens to Hyypia or Crouch it's not a penalty, but when it happens to the good old fragile John Terry it's a different story

                        Are you kidding?!?

Mike Riley?! Is he the PL's best referee then, because he seems to get all the big games... Fooking wonderful.

As usual the Chavs' main threat will be from set-pieces.

If we defend those well, then we'll be fine on Sunday.

I thought we were unlucky in the Derby but that apart our lucks been ok this season.

I thought we were a bit lucky against Sheff Utd as the penalty was debatable.

Last night SG's effort was unlucky but equally they hit the bar, so that evens itself out
