As a versatile player he would be a valuable player on the bench even if he is currently unlikely to displace any first team players. He sounds like the sort of good alround player who could take on an Arbeloa type role in the squad - able to play many positions because his basic skills are sound and he has the right attitude.

It really is a no brainer of a proposal and would have to benefit all concerned. With the pressure on Rafa with every result now, he will never be able to put an unknown / kid on the bench as part of 4 outfield players but how valuable would it be to blood in a Spearing type player when you are comfortably winning a match - suppose even if it was agreed now it wouldn't come into play for another 18 months or something though

The problem with 7 subs is it puts the smaller at a further disadvantage as they have smaller and weaker squads. Thats why it may never happen.

He is thin like Crouchy, and quite tall. Personally from what i have seen of him i don't think he will make it, his passing reminds me of Sissoko. Altho in fairness he has improved alot since he first joined. Astrit Ajdarevic is imo our bigggist prospect in centre mid.
I could not disagree more with you here mate!! I have watched the last 4 or 5 reserve games and Plessis hardly ever gives a ball away. Granted he does not try any really difficult passes, but his job is to win the ball and give it to the creative players, and he does it brilliantly.

Last night, the players that impressed me most were: Plessis, Huth, Spearing, and Nemeth. Leto to an extent as well - that boy has some skillz!!!

Good game that last night, dominated play and got good goals too.

The usual suspects did shine, however many of the other lads are showing signs of improvement too, Huth and San Jose were solid at the back, Plesis is improving game by game, Leto is still the stand out star, Brouwer is probably the poorest but he plays the battering ram role and allows others to get the goals.

Watching the reserves is one of the best things to come from the LFC channel.
              We come not to play.

To help with evening out the system, perhaps extend the subs to 7, with 3 having to have spent a certain length of time at the youth set up (say 2 years) and be under 21. Every premiership club can call upon young, talented teenagers that are on their books and it doesn't provide the big clubs with too much extra advantage, as they'd have to have these kids for a period of time first rather than just shipping kids from Europe in.

Without doubt. Seen some great matches thanks to the ressies. even the academy is worth watching for some decent football.

I can see where you are coming from which is why I stated they would have to be young players. I can see that as the big teams buy top youngsters this might still favour them but I think that with these two spots always to fight for young players might consider where they would get a better chance of progressing. Currently a lot of PL teams have no youngsters (at least home grown ones) in their regular squads and this won't change until they are given a relatively risk free way of blooding them. The risks at the bottom of the league are if anything higher than at the top, yet I believe that the rewards are greater as players bought through at a team are more likely to fight for it IMO.

Extending the conditions is an interesting idea. I don't think that would ever get past the top teams. I think the conditions being in place for the two newly created subs positions is probably the most doable compromise.

I guess we could implement a quota system for the first team like they do in the CL. Allowing a pretty free B list of U21 players but enforcing a number of homegrown players in a say 22-24 man A squad.
