He could've tried to fight for the result.

He didn't though, what kind of message does that send?

Saturday, at 3-1 down, was a massive test of our title credentials, and instead of giving it everything, the manager didn't bloody bother.

The worst part of it is that most seem to accept his decision. Unbelievable.

Just imagine if Ged had done that, he'd have been completely slaughtered, and rightly so, but Rafa gets a free pass? I don't get it.
Depends when? if after he won us 5 trophies he would have been given a bit of leeway. Rafa doesnt get a free pass, but he deserves more respect than the **** you and DJS are giving him

Brainwashing doesn't come into it.

Nor does nonsense.

Unless I am wrong and our manager is so incompetent that he took off Torres and Gerrard against Reading for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

After 70 mins, being 3-1 down, do people think he SHOULDN'T have made a change?!
3-1 down would suggest something has to change to me

And if different players need to come on, then surely it would make sense that the players that do come off, are arguably the most important players for the next, MUST WIN game??

Thats the reality. The Reading game wasn't a MUST WIN situation. Marseille was. Not saying he devalues the PL or over-values the CL, but we were 3-1 down, and something needed to change.
Seems like a pretty smart decision to me, in hindsight especially

It's not about how MANY defeats, it's the manner in which we threw in the towel and against a ****e side.

We didn't throw in the towel.

Have another look at the highlights, we created enough chances to at least draw in the last 20 minutes.

All this because he took off Gerrard Goes to show he would have been ****ing shot had we not beaten Everton

Really? ****in hell I thought we mustve brought on a couple of centre halves and thrown the towel in. Bringing on 2 attacking players must mean we have thrown the towel in now. Oh well.

I don't think anybody has mentioned the effect on the squad of substituting key players.

Every player in that dressing room must know that if they work hard and play well, they will be given a role to play. Not even our captain is immune to being taken off.

Rafa is not afraid to put his faith in his substitutes, even if it means sacrificing one of the big boys. It may not have paid off against Reading but it wasn't for the want of trying.

Rafa made some daft mistakes against Reading but I don't believe that includes the substitutions.

We're just off the top, in the form of our lives with the second half of the season to come - a half we get stronger in. We've lost just one league match all season and have qualified from our champions league group. We're in our best position for years. Let's get some perspective please.
I completely agree.

Still doesn't change the fact that Rafa didn't have his best players out there trying to save the game against Reading, and maybe earn some points which could be vital come mid-May.

Most seem to have completely missed my point, or actually agree with what Rafa did, which I just can't fathom in all honesty.

I will never understand how anyone can blame Rafa for anything against Reading.

We don't know all the facts, what G&H told Rafa before the game, if he would be sacked or get more or less no money to spend.

If I faced the sack or risked losing the transfer budget then I would have played with an even weaker team against Reading.

I think some people need to think more about the situation Rafa faced than only look at the three points against Reading.

We don't have the most clever owners you know.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

It's not the fact that Kewell and Babel came on, it was that Torres and Gerrard were taken off - instead off say Sissoko and Voronin who were having sub par performances - when we were 3-1 down and there was still a chance of getting into the game.

This doesn't bother you one bit?
