Rafa Benitez insists he is staying at Liverpool.
The Kop boss will meet owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks this weekend but expects peace to have broken out after talks. His future had looked bleak less than three weeks ago with Liverpool’s Champions League hopes hanging by a thread. At that time Benitez insisted: “I am focused on training and coaching my team.”
That first brought to light a fall-out between Benitez and the Americans who will watch Sunday’s vital Premier League clash with Manchester United.
And a few days later – after a win at Newcastle – he spoke of changes in the club’s way of doing business, saying that in future all transfer dealings would be handled by chief executive Rick Parry.
But after eventually clinching a place in the last 16 of the Champions League, Benitez looks secure.
Yesterday he insisted that the “misunderstanding” would never have happened if Foster Gillett – son of George – had not been away on private business in America.
Now on the brink of what he is certain will be positive talks with Gillett, Hicks and Parry, Benitez says: “I am a manager and the only question now is how I manage, so we just need to clarify that situation.
“But I think that I will be on their Christmas card list again, and they will be on mine as well. It’s not a problem.
“I am certainly not worried about the meeting. We are all trying to do the best for our club and they want the same.
“We just need to understand one another, but Foster Gillett is over here and we talk a lot, so we know more about the situation because of that.
“I think all the talk about my position will be finished next week.
“When you see what we have been doing over the last three or four years, it is clear we are moving in the right direction. It’s just a case of finding a solution to the misunderstanding.”

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

At the end of the day, if G&H get rid of Rafa, there will be absolute hell to pay. That combined with the progress he's making (even if the 4 yanks on the board don't understand football, parry has at least an inkling) makes it unlikely that he'll be going anywhere under anything other than his own steam IMO.

Can I ask, Does Rafa want to negotiate everything like price and wages is that right? He doesnt say to Parry "I want .... please get him". What happens at other clubs? Does Demento handle all the negotiations regarding wages and transfer fees?"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.
The Future is Red!
