United bought the right players but paid a whole load of money to get them. Rafa's been buying players such as Yossi for 5m ... Great bargain, but is he better than the ones United have in the same position ? No. We need money to compete mate, football is won there. Rafa will close the gap, but not as quickly as we would want if he isn't backed to the hilt.
By the way we bought Kuyt for £10m, the scum got Ronaldo for £12m.

Again it's not about how much you spend in some cases, it's who you spend it on.

Can't understand why Rafa bought a striker with inferior technical ability at this level? Considering he had so many gifted technical players at Valencia, it's a complete mystery to me.

Just like Morientes, only Nando failed because he couldn't adapt to the pace, Kuyt just isn't good enough technically.

And for me it's the one position where we are really lacking, that second striker with top class ability. Kuyt, Crouch and Voronin all have their moments, but none are the solution.

I dont like being pesimistic but it's very hard to take any positives from todays game. we had all the possesion and created little with it, few half chances and a couple of mistakes by van der sar but we did not capitalise. It was a classic away performance by united, they stifled us, nicked a goal and shut up shop. I ****in hate them but they are where we need to be. If Rafa cannot win these games then we will not win the title. His record against the top 3 is abysmal and speaks for itself. The 3 pts thrown away at reading look like gold dust now. I hope the yanks realise after watching todays game that we still need major investment in the 1st team, creativity on the wings and a strike partner for torres. I am bitterly dissapointed as were were mugged yet again and I think our title challenge is more or less dead in the water.

I don't understand your point. United have better players in the areas where it's important and they've paid big money for them.

          Rooney 30m
          Tevez 30m
          Ronaldo 12m
          Anderson 18m
          Nani 18m

          Should I continue ?

Scum: Again can't think of anyone bad enough, maybe Flecther, but he's not a forward. Alan Smith when he was there?

None are the solution so what would you do ? As I said, United has been splashing the cash. It's simple. Rafa still had to put all his budget on Torres this season and sold players to buy the other ones.

Totally right. The Dutch Alan smith and I was only looking at him yesterday thinking WTF does he offer Newcastle up top. Answer was nothing and that is very much why he plays mostly as a central midfielder

Playing against a bottom-dwelling Marseille in mid-week is fine, but you have to know that against a team like Man U, you have to control the midfield and while still allowing Gerrard to prowl and run free; PLAY a creative supporting midfielder (Lucas), allow Benayoun and Gerrard to create and overlap on the right. Again, after 30 minutes of watching this match, the problem was obvious. Mascherano did an admirable job, but again, this was pure tactics. This isn't about money.

You can call me an internet poster who thinks he knows more than Rafa blah blah blah, fine. But anyone with two eyes watching this match today knew within 15 minutes that Kuyt was a disastrous choice and our lack of patience and control in the midfield cost us big by not allowing our best players to do what they do best. IT HAPPENS EVERY MATCH. Go look at the thread; is there anyone who didn't predict Crouch for Kuyt at 75 minutes?

Rafa will not learn. I will continue to wish and hope, but the reality? Not good enough in match management. When people grab a lead and bunker, we're dead. Always.

as someone has mentioned we seem to have a mental block against United. They did **** all ,as usual when they come to Anfield, and go away with a point

OK, so we didnt play that well today, we lacked creativity and created few chances. Bad day and we'll move on. The table come may will tell us if we're good enough to win the league, not one game.

One key factor though, Money. Let's look at the two teams today by transfer fee..

                            United:

                            £0
                            £0 £30m £8m £5m
                            £12m £17m £20m £0
                            £27m £(up to) 20m

                            Total: 139m

                            Liverpool

                            £6m
                            £2m £2.5m £0 £4m
                            £5m £0 £(up to)17m £5m
                            £9m £20m

                            Total: £70.5m

Thats a big difference to overcome, and we're doing well to be where we are IMO.

I have to say this... how can it be always the manager's fault? Yes he picked the player, and more than likely the player impressed during training... but its still the player(s) on the pitch...

They looked so overwhelmed out there... Yossi, Kewell, Kuyt (as usual trying too hard and too much)... dare I say it... Gerrard's needed and he wasn't there... even my manc dad said that! (Fcuk I really need to get out of the house for the next one...)

Defence was not too bad today. But manure was always going to defend deep today as they did once fergie realised they can't come waltzing into Anfield since Benitez took over... Torres and Kuyt were never gonna be effective without Yossi, Kewell and Gerrard helping out.

Just a bad one today. We needed the midfield to press, and instead they got bossed by a nineteen year old (Anderson?) and Hargreaves... fergie got his tactics down, but the players put on the pitch by Rafa had more than enough to make them work harder.

It's the players who let everyone down today, not Rafa.

Yes I should as it is me who is throwing foul abuse around. Oh actually it's not me at all, it's you.
