With a transfer window coming up we're hardly likely to come out and say "we're backing the manager to buy whoever he wants" keeping our hand close to our chest will work in our favour.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Nice to read that mate.Originally posted by Jan-Erik View PostLiverpool.no was present during a "former Liverpool player" dinner after todays game, and Gillett was present. This is the most important things he said:
"Rafa is the man we want as manager and he's got our support"
"I've been married for 40 years and know how to deal with an argument"
"Our squad is better then last year and we want to build on that. This work has just only began"
"The transfere window is coming up, and we may, or may not take advantage of it"
"Liverpool is a huge club. Its not our club, its the supporters club and thats how it will always be"
Thanks.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Rafa acted petulantly no doubt, but all he did was repeat the phrase "as always I am focussed on training and coaching my team", at best hinting at a problem. People will interpret that anyway they please but the fact remains he explicitly revealed nothing.Originally posted by Kilteragh View PostAbsolute rubbish mate. Rafa took the argument public and the criticism was overtly implied if not explicit. This should never have gone public.
We agree Rafa was wrong to bring it to the public arena, but it didn't mean the yanks had to comment on it and muddy the waters. It's the yanks who publicly revealed the nature of the argument by subsequently releasing a statement saying that they've heavily invested in the team, the focus should be on winning matches and transfers will not be on the agenda for a month. That to me is a strongly worded public rebuke and IMO is designed to maximise the pressure on the manager. And today's statement has done nothing to relieve that. He needs backing to take us to the top, not recriminations, ultimatums and undue pressure.
The yanks have turned us into a media circus, and if they're not careful, imminently into a laughing stock (if we haven't become one already) and tonight's statement is one step further in that direction. Like someone else posted above, we've become the club of spin.Originally posted by DJS View PostThey clearly havent got the foggiest when it comes to football or LFC, that much is obvious.
This whole thing has been embarrassing and totally not in keeping with how we do things.

Nice sentiments, but my concern is does GG speak for Hicks?
Gillett has always said the right things, it's Hicks of late who's reportedly been running his mouth ...Last edited by Dhav; 16-12-07, 11:42 PM.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

I wouldn't be surprised, it seems to me they're definitely trying to put pressure on Rafa.Originally posted by Lucky View PostMaybe they're playing good kop bad kop so they can keep pressure on Rafa, parry and the team.

Don't think anything said in public is aimed at Rafa. He'll know what the position is after todays meeting.Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostI wouldn't be surprised, it seems to me they're definitely trying to put pressure on Rafa.

Gillett isn't over here to make enemies. He has said some good positive stuff that people want to hear at some function. From his perspective it'll endear him to the people in the room and save him a load of grief going over the same subject again and again (if anyone present really had all that much access to a billionaire).
Time will tell. Hope today wasn't just a bollocking for Rafa with nothing much else agreed.
