"Listen fella, I'm not going to get into a big debate about this but the bottom line is alot of posters on here have been unfairly critical of Tom on here. The thing is when he used to reveal potential signings on here and koptalk people would kiss his arse from here to across the street. However the few times he reveals stuff that we're not happy to hear, we are quick to refute it and criticise him by accusing him of being melodramatic.

The way I see it is some of you are happy to hear and believe info so long as it's something that pleases us, however the moment the news becomes negative you don't want to believe a word of it. Had Tom come on here and gave the yanks the thumbs up and told us juicy gossip on how things are great behind the scenes, that they're going to back rafa 100% and we're going to have the most amazing stadium etc, etc, you guys would still be kissing his arse. Lets also add that I don't think Tom source of info has changed that much since the Koptalk days so why were we happy to believe things he said back then and not now? Pure double standards!!! "

for the record - this post is incorrect in ALL its assetions

sometimes toms contacts tell him stuff that turns out to be true, sometimes theyre wrong but the way hes presented the 2 things he was supposedly told in the last few days is simply unreasonable, excessively pessimistic and unquestionably melodramatic.

now be reasonable, what would it take to justify "loss of the club"?????????

not signing mascher????, bit of extra debt?????, american bosses being forced to backtrack????

tsk. tsk. You are being excessively literal in your interpretations. "Lost our club" is a metaphor for the loss of the soul of the club as illustrated in the post by pointing out the cultural and political differences between shankly and hicks.

A "bit of extra debt" - you have got to be joking, putting the entirety of the aquisition debt onto the club, because they've realised they are out of their depth is an extremly serious development. We don't agree on this but happy christmas anyway

oh i see , thanks for clearing that up.

your metaphor.....do you think it could be reasonably said to have a bit too much emotion in it compared with the reality??, to be exaggerated?? whats the word?.....oh yes, you said it yourself, melodramatic

dont come the shankly/hicks comparisons mate - the world and the football of the 1960's was not what it is today. what shankly did cant be done now. some of shankly's many qualities are still desireable now but some just dont work any more. H&G know how to run a modern day sports club successfully. i think theyre doing ok so far - that wont change if we dont sign mascherano, nor if we (the club) take out a large loan to fund the new (and completely necessary) stadium.

to me, the "soul" of the club is its fans, their love of it and their traditions.

that'll take somewhat more than what your sportsdesk chums told you to be lost.

again, slant your view how you will

i think the likely debt is entirely manageable and a price well worth paying for the new stadium.

as for "out of their depth"???? our previous chairman and board would be out of their depth running a tombola.

merry christmas, enjoy watching the "lost" club have a good 2008

                        I wouldn't say you were over-excited Tom

Being hugely overstretched and unable to stump up the money to assure RBS that they can manage the aquisition loan process is not being out of their depth?

We'll have to agree to differ.

It would appear I got my figures wrong about the net worth of Hicks and Gillette although I still maintain that it doesn't matter how much they are worth they aren't even willing to stump up the deposit on the loans they now want to refinance their purchase. I did see an article in one of the broadsheet comparing them to other owners and it did say £700M combined and I spent most of the morning looking for it but to no avail. I apologise about that in any case.

No need to apologise, mate. It was nice debating with you and I'm sure we will talk more on this in the coming weeks.

                              Merry Christmas.
