dunno why so many reds wanna concede the title at chrimbo. barring injury and the return of every 1st team player, we are gonna be right there. get back to me at easter

While they're far from a one man team if they lost Ronaldo for a good period of time they'd drop away I feel. He's the leagues top scorer at the mo and he turns alot of draws into wins for them.

It's not that I'm conceding, I just think it's a long shot...which it most definitely is. I've seen nothing this season to suggest that we're good enough to win the league. I'm always hopeful that we could do it but we're outsiders atthis stage.

One point that everybody keeps missing the the exchange rate to the dollar.

When G&H bought the club, the rate was more like US$1.72 = £1.00, i.e. US$1.72million to £1million. The stadium was going to cost them £250million which then was US$430m. Now it is more like US$495m and rising because of the credit squeeze.

Anybody in their right mind will want to reevaluate what they have to spend. If it was DIC, it would have been even worse based on their project plan that was leaked.

People need to face the reality. I will be surprised if we spend £20m on anyone player unless we get to the CL finals in Moscow.

Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers and you will know my name is The Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. not sure anybody else picked up on this but it impressed me in the article:

"I think our team played like they mentally didn't think they were good enough to win, played tight,'' Hicks said a few days later from his Dallas office, sounding more analytical than critical.

The old man is not as daft as he looks and usually speaks.
                We come not to play.

Right or wrong, he's totally out of order to undermine the manager by saying this in public.

And I doubt it's not intentional.
                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

That doesn't undermine Rafa at all. He made a personal assessment of the players attitudes, not of the way they were managed.

To me it also proves he is watching and paying attention to the matches, and isn't going to give a standard press release answer. I like someone that will speak his mind both positive and negative.

Do you know, I've got the vibe we're going to do it, had it from the start of this season. It defies all logic, but there again when we drew against deportivo in the CL in 2004 I said we'd go to the final. I sincerely hope I'm a witch.

                          That's the spirit.

Assuming we stay neck and neck with them for a month or so and win our game in hand we'll only be six points off the top. We could turn that deficit around, imho.

I think you are taking what he wants to be taken from the statement to be honest. However I don't think it is a very tactful thing to say considering the press climate and desire for a story.

In addition I think a judgment of the attitude of the players has to have a reflection on the manager.

I posted this earlier on relating to the comment. Am too lazy to type it again:

That is the quote that worries me to be honest, Hicks quote that is. He is only in football for a wet day and now he thinks he is qualified to give his expert opinion about what went wrong during the game, it is a worrying quote for me, because it suggests that Rafa's motivational techniques or preparation is not up to what it whould be.
Personally, I think it was more a case of being up against a good side, a very strong defensive side who were defending deep and made it difficult, while trying to catch us on the break. I have noticed in recent seasons, United are getting more and more defensive or carfeul when they come to Anfield, they dont approach us with their usual week in week out gung ho attitude when they come to anfield.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                              * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

                                PS.
If Hicks continues to have a say on why we loose certain matches, it will only get worse, this is the sort of thing that I have never experienced as a Liverpool fan, why is this just hapening now. Hicks strikes me as somewhat of a control freak, whatever about finance problems, but he better not start interfering with the way Rafa manages. Rafa will walk if this gets any worse IMO.
