How many blips do we have in the season? It seems like this is our second blip in the season and it is starting to cost us, another match against Luton, 12 points (with a game in hand) behind the leaders.
As one of the best clubs in Europe, it is acceptable to have one blip in a season. A blip which should last only a few games. Manchester United were deemed to have a blip at the start of the season and picked up 2 points from 3 games but look at the form they are in at this moment in time. Even when they don't play to their full potential/maximum ability, they can have people on the bench to change the game and win games or hang onto games.
Arsenal have not had a blip as in drop many points in a matter of matches. They had two matches in the North East and lost one, drew one. They are still top of the table. That says enough about their character and confidence and mentality to bounce back after poor back to back results.
Chelsea had theirs just after the start of the season. A loss to Villa, draw at home against Blackburn, loss to Man U and another draw at home against Fulham. Since then they had an eight match unbeaten streak in the Premiership (7 wins-1 draw) and loss to Arsenal. Since that match, they have lost a lot of players and have been performing badly but have got the results.
This is the difference between ourselves and the top three. We don't have the strength in depth to win games. We had to field a decent Premiership side today and got away lucky with a draw. Yes, a draw to a League One side. This is really unacceptable.
This was the game for players who have been criticised and have had their confidence on a low to show the fans and the senior staff that they deserve to start matches. Today, only Crouch showed why he should start with Torres. Its lack of ingenuity, lack of belief, lack of confidence. Its everything that Liverpool should not be having. Looking on paper, we had the easiest draw from the top four yet we stuttered.
The blame lies not only on Rafa's shoulders but the players. Rafa buys a player to Liverpool, that player should play like a Liverpool player. I am looking at Kuyt and Voronin here. They are absolutely rubbish. They are the standard Liverpool shouldn't buy. Its all well and good to have numbers but if there is no strength in depth, no way will we win the title. Arsenal may not have massive depth but with what depth they have, they can pull of results. Man U have a fantastic squad, they get results. Chelsea have a decent squad, get results. The whole point of rotation, something I have belief in, is to have a squad which has equal ability. Something which on the evidence of today, is something we massively lack.
