to be fair if we won our game in hand it'd be 9, and if we beat them both it'd be 6, no i don't think it's likely but it's still possible if we start winning games instead of drawing them, and actually start giving a ****Originally posted by tsb View PostMathematically, Derby are still in the title race. And where do you see any inkling that this might be about to happen? We've been talking about going on a "good run of wins" and "having the players and the manager to turn it around" ever since the ship started listing back in September, and we're still talking about it. We'll still be talking about it next April.Originally posted by Morph View Postto be fair if we won our game in hand it'd be 9, and if we beat them both it'd be 6, no i don't think it's likely but it's still possible if we start winning games instead of drawing them, and actually start giving a ****
The fact is, the rot is set too deep at this stage and every three or four games - maybe even more frequent than that the way things have gone the past month - there'll be another Reading result, another Boro result, another Wigan etc. And there'll still be a legion on here deluding themsevles that somehow it's all going to come right. It will only come right through direct action of the owners supplying lots of money and the manager changing his spots somewhat and re-inspiring the team - and none of that, frankly, is going to happen.
We're in the middle of a piss-easy run of games at the moment and we can't win to save our lives and we still have to go away to all the big hitters and have more difficult games to come. Does anybody out there think honestly in their heart of hearts that we're going to get better and not actually worse as the weeks roll by?
It's all well and good backing the manager and being a great supporter and having a wee badge to go with it, but the club is going backwards while you're up preaching on your pedestals and things are getting worse.
When oh when did Liverpool Football Club and its supporters collectively roll over and die to accept mediocrity like this and fourth place battles and a dozen points of top of the table every season? We're inexorably falling back into the midst of league also rans. Is everyone's pride still so anaesthetised by 2005 that they can't see it?

mayve, just maybe people who have a different opinion to you DONT actually accept mediocrity as you claimOriginally posted by breffniboy View PostWhen oh when did Liverpool Football Club and its supporters collectively roll over and die to accept mediocrity like this and fourth place battles and a dozen points of top of the table every season? Do you think there is a possibility that these people are not actually happy with the way were playing but in the bigger term see it as a "blip" of sorts.
Maybe we wont fix it in time for this season, but just because some people see Rafa as the best man to be in charge of liverpool doesnt mean they accept we will "always" play this bad or that they think for one second we will "always be a dozen points off the top" either.
I have pride, tons of it, and I still want rafa to be our manager for this season and next.
Then, our progress under him will determine wether or not it is in the clubs best interests to offer him a new contract or not.

It's a combination of manager and owners that's causing the problems. But Rafa could spend millions and millions next summer or even this month and if he slots the players into his flawed, negative, overly systematic way of playing the game, then it won't matter a jot we'll still be off the pace.Originally posted by paulcooper4 View PostThen, our progress under him will determine wether or not it is in the clubs best interests to offer him a new contract or not.
You cannot win every football match it's true, but you will win less and less football matches if your fundamental approach is trying not to lose them. We can do well against big teams in Europe because their quality is such it almost demands that we set ourselves up to nullify them. Problem is, Rafa does this against all teams, like Wigan and so on. It has to change if he has any hope of ever being a domestic success and frankly, I don't see him ever changing. he's a better manager all over but it has many refelctions of Houllier than he has this awful football style and come hell or high water, won't change it for anyone.
I'd love to think it was a blip but if it's blips that's keeping us in fourth with all the evidence suggesting we are now actively regressing and not progressing, then it's one hell of a blip. Since September, so a long blip too. I've lost the faith entirely I'm just fed up.

One thing I will say though is all this **** going the managers way is giving the players a free ride. They are letting Rafa down big time. Once they cross the white line he cant do nothing about it if theyre playing like ******s. I very much doubt he is asking them to play **** and with no bollocks.
If these players carry on in this vein they will have to be shown the door in the summer because they will have proven they dont have the mentality to perform at a high level for 3 or 4 games out of 5 like you need to do at the top level.
These players have the ability, but do they have the balls? I am not so sure

DJS & Bigfooty, this thread is not for you guys so keep out please. Many thanks
Shouldn't you be supporting Newcastle? seriously deluded. Do you think Man utd, Chelsea and Arsenal are going to drop enough points, its 3 teams we are chasing not 1. There is no way we are capable of putting a run together with games away to the big 3 still to play. I'm not hopeful of 4th place at the moment.YNWA!!!!
