I think so too. Unless the arse falls out of his game completely between now and the end the season there is no reason why he shouldnt stay for emergency cover.

As kev says, this would give this ****in fantastic footballer the testimonial he has genuinely earnt since he came here.

To think, if Ged hadnt of sent big ronnie yeats to scout some ****e player he would have never spotted the colossal finn

Thank you big ron yeats, you know a centre half when you see one lad

He said he wants to stay on merseyside after his playing days so he might stay on in some capacity.

That would be nice to, he deserves a testimonial obviously not for the money but as recognition for his outstanding service to our club.
I think Rafa will keep him as cover for another season.

Yeah thats a good point. It might be worth pointing out to a few people that a testimonial for Sami would not be to give him money, which was the main reason years ago when players were on ****e money.

It is about showing the man you appreciate everything he has done for the club. All gate receipts etc would not go to Sami Hyppia but to a charity of his choice. I know its obvious but there may be a couple of people out there that dont realise how it works these days.

I can't put into words what a fantastic player & utter professional he's been for us. What a bargain too. Got a decent return of goals and many important ones. I remember his first season here, and Hansen compiled a MOTD clip of Hyypia's first few games for us (this was just after we'd signed him) - and he did look a ****ing player. Could pass, tackle, head, score. He was the real deal

Even this season - barring his two OGs - he's played very very well. There's no other 3rd choice CB that I'd (realistically) rather have.

Think Rafa said recently that Hyypia will be offered a new one year deal for next year - so that'll take him to 10 years which will make him eligible for a testimonial won't it?!

I'd like to see Sami finish off like Tommy Smith - cos he's up there with the best. A stunning header at the near post in Moscow to help us lift No.6 would be a fitting way for him to bow out.

Rafa told Sami at the start of the season he would play in about 20 games. I.E. he would come in occasionally to rest Agger or Carragher and play in the odd cup game. At his age he knows himself he cant play 2 or 3 times a week. Nature doesnt let the body recover in time to keep performing at a top level at the age of 34. When we missed out on heinze, then Agger got a long term injury we had no alternative but to turn to the huge finn and just hope he could do his best playing in every game week in week out because we simply had no alternative.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank big Sami for exceeding himself, he has really pushed his body to the limits yet we still have one of the best defensive records in the division.

Now he can go back to being used just as cover, when he will be playing games 100% fit, there is nobody I would rather have in the world for this role.

Again, Sami I thank you mate for the stint you have just put in and appreciate just how much it must have taken its toll on you.
