    Diomede Retires..

Sad news! if only that goal on his debut was given.

Former France midfielder Bernard Diomerde has announced his retirement after being without a club for the past 18 months.

Diomede, who made three appearances for Les Bleus as France claimed the World Cup in 1998, has been searching for a new club since leaving Clermont Foot in June 2006 but has now decided to call it a day.

The 33-year-old started his career at Auxerre - where he won the domestic league and cup double in 1996 - before an unproductive spell at English giants Liverpool and stints at Ajaccio and US Creteil.

Wonder why he couldnt find a club

Thought he'd retired when he came to us?

Yeah, that overhead kick that crossed the line at Anfield that was never given could have been the making of the lad!

Anyway, he was unlucky then, and it all went downhill from then on.

All the best to him in whatever he does.

How can a player be good enough for the mighty reds aged 24, then at 33 not good enough for anyone?

I know he is 33, but Paul Furlong is 39 and still playing.

Did he have a bad injury?

I hope with his luck and skills he doesn't become a bookie.

He was like a fat Diao when he was with us but the lad's got a World Cup winners medal so fair play to him.

How many games did he play for us? Only a handful at most surely?

A deliberate mispelling of his name? Diomerde?

                              Merde.

Ah well, World Cup winners medal and a handful of appearances for the Mighty Reds. I'd settle for that.
