Kuyt was by nowhere near the worst player on the park today. One extremely bad fluff excepted.

Voronin, well I don't rate him at all myself, but he wasn't playing so I'm not sure what he's got to do with anything.

I just don't see how saying "they're ****" is ever really going to be very constructive, especially out of context.

Aurelio did have an off game I felt, but he can be allowed that after coming back from injury. He just seemed a bit lost but I expect him to get back to the sort of performances since before his injury. It's not uncommon for someone to be off the pace like that after an injury.

To be fair, it was an unspectacular game overall, but with a couple of really good moves from us. And their second goal was spawny as you like.

Apart from their goals they really didn't threaten us I felt.

I felt that Torres was really bullied tonight and didn't respond too well to it, but is always capable of a bit of magic.

I felt that Masher and Sami were our best players tonight.

I still think that both Babel and Crouch should be playing from the start instead of Kewell and Kuyt. It would add so much more threat.

At 10 million quid Kuyt was nowhere near the best either. 10 million quid!!!! Voronin has everything to do with it. Voronin is on how much money and contributing **** all? Some people want success so much it obscures their judgement.Face facts we're light years behind the leaders!

Although a touch unlucky tonight we were pretty average I thought.

Upfront we were pretty poor. Torres had an off night and Kuyt was well Kuyt. He just isn't good enough pure and simple.

Midfield was quiet as well. Apart from his goal Yossi was poor. SG looked very subdued indeed. Masher was our best player tonight whilst Kewell did ok but only once did he beat his defender.

At the back I thought Sami was good, carra, ok but Aurelio was shaky, particulary in the 1st half.

Overall, just not good enough tonight. Anothe lead at home surrended. However, it would be harsh to blame the players too much. i don't care what anyone says, the off the field stuff has 100% effected them.

FFs, if you think people don't agree that Kuyt's not been up to standard most of the season, read the Kuyt thread. Should keep you busy for a day or two. Incessantly calling him ****, even when he actually had an ok game, is hardly adding anything new or illuminating.

And seeing as you made the point, why don't you tell us how much Voronin... a free transfer committed to when we had no funds.... is in fact on?

really do think a stable and consistent back 4 would help though. there's too much changing of our fullbacks for my liking and once agger returns i can see the same taking place with our centrebacks. the best defense we had in recent times basically had the same back 4 week in week out. can anyone really see rafa doing this?

we conceded 2 soft and yes 1 was unlucky goals today.

We're just not good enough, responsibility across lack of quality, inconsistent performances and indeed tactics. These displays are comparable to some of the worst under GH. Shame, really thought we'd compete this season

Was it effecting them when we dropped points to Birmingham, Spurs, Wigan etc? Or when we went 4-3-3 against Reading?

The problem is that this season we've had too many indifferent performances, too many points thrown away or not gained when they should have been. Every week it's a different excuse, though normally the word "luck" is used in there by Rafa or whoever.

I don't care who you are if you want to progress in the league you play your best, most effective players. We just do not do that or we do and then stick them in positions that are not natural to them because it has to fit with Rafa's "tactics".

I've given up all hope of ever progressing under Rafa in the league but fortunately it appears as if we'll get someone with fresher, more positive ideas come the Summer.

Whatver he's on is too much. Kuyt had an ok game!. I must have been watching a different game. 4 home wins out of 11 at home. These are players who are picking up fortunes and can't do the basics right. A manager who doesn't look as if he is able to motivate his team. Can you honestly say Gerrard is the same player of 4 or 5 years ago? We looked a better side with Garcia , Riise, Baros et al. Tell me I'm wrong!

Anybody who actually wants to try and play attacking football and win a game inside an hour and not spend all week worrying and deliberating over what an opposing side of lower calibre may or not do and what tactics they may or may not adopt will do me just fine.

Apart from a fairly fortuitous opening goal it was a pretty **** and uninspiring first half. Let's just say it didn't take a genius to guess at half time what course that game was going to take. As a threat on goal are you saying you'd prefer Dirk (1 goal from outfield play every 1000 minutes) Kuyt to Baros.

We can't just expect to run riot against a team as well organised as Villa. They hardly had a sniff in the first 60 mins and their goals came completely against the run of play. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.
